Modern flaps are fine. They have the bristles and the padding and snap shut mechanism. But the old fashioned ones that flap in the wind do my had in!

The Sully one is great for holding heat, I have a couple of other large mugs and, like you say, the heat goes out of them so quickly it's tepid by the time you're half way through. 
I hate cold tea.
I tried using a thermal mug for that purpose but I can always taste the plastic.
My current mug of choice is a sports direct jumbo one (99p in their sale!) Double capacity but retains the heat and a nice big grip.
Some bastard sold my one from Kelvedon Hatch and they don't make them anymore!
Chip's just been wrestling the wheelie bin down the drive in the snow. It's eerily quiet out there.

Ha. Is it one of those fun coloured wheelie bins? Some people have purple ones. I am jealous.
