A new stand-up video

It was the first time I ever did this particular set (back in October 2007) so I'm a bit critical of it but go on chaps and chapettes, have a look:

****Spoilers****

I liked the bit at the start about getting your own back at funerals.

The 'favourite animal' bit didn't seem too inspired, but I liked the comeback to Siberian Husky.

The condom bit was quite funny.

There was some filler, but some good stuff in there as well. You seem to handle yourself well on stage which is also good.

I agree with winter, the strongest part was at the beginning with the funeral gag which is very strong. I'll be honest and say I lost interest after 3 mins - harsh I know but honest.

It appeared to me, and trust me I really am no expert on this(doing my first gig in 10 days - gulp!) but I felt the material seemed haphazard and needed to be moulded into a 5/7 min routine or story.

Just my thoughts, you show alot of potential in my opinion.

The funeral gag is an old one. I heard that ages ago.

If you want my honest opinion, you looked as if you were rehearsing your act in your sleep.

Wake up and ATTACK that audience.

the funerals sketch is pretty old, I can't remember who I heard that from originally.

the animals section I didn't really like very much.

you had some good material but I would say half of it was good the other half was average.

It was good, keep it up.

Hi Stuart, well done for getting to the Reading final - I nearly went to that (as a viewer).

I would say that you seem to be trying many different types of jokes in this routine - not necessarily a bad thing to filter out what people like, but I can see why some things worked better than others.

Having heard your funeral joke a few times it seems to be the classic jokes that are getting the best response rather than some of the surreal stuff IMO.

I think audiences respond better to a new comedian when you stick to one style of comedy.

I don't know if you have tried this ending (for those that don't get it) to the funeral joke, "so I've been getting my revenge by saying the same to them - at funerals." Keep the punchline as late as possible. I think the potential is there s keep posting the clips. :)

I enjoyed it, and I quite enjoyed your delivery; I thought the "sleepiness" was reminiscent of someone like Rich Hall. That's not to say it was done perfectly or is the right style to follow. Maybe you were just jetlagged!! I think the pacing could have been better and some of the wacky jokes had legs for leading onto something else, but of course I suppose brevity is essential. Yeah, some of it was good, some not so. I imagine it would have been good to have had a neater ending, possibly by referencing something you'd said earlier in a neat way.
Anyway I enjoyed it.

Thanks for comments. As I said it was the first time I did this particular set and I think I have improved somewhat in all aspects. It's been re-arranged, built better, the tone has shifted and the jokes are structured better. Plus my performance has improved.

The funeral joke is a worry! I like that joke and fet sure it was something me and a friend came up with. Especially seeing as I do a callback to it later in the set now. Oh well, you win some you lose some.

Cheers

I've been lucky enough to see Stuarts live version and he stays true to it, I think there were a few surrual jokes in there, that I haven't heard before but still good Stu.

And what the f**k is wrong with the audience. BADGER!!!! I must know!!

Are you doing the laughing horse?
