Aren't they called Boss?

Sometimes.

In advertising we used to call them clients.
An impossibly uphill task for a product no-one wants on a ludicrously small budget.
Always followed by the immortal phrase.
" But, hey, you're the creative geniuses...."

Wankers.

mmm. I just need to find a way to bend/ strech time and I'll be fine.

The way the British media fetishise the weather , and peoples reaction to it . The mere threat of a bit of snow generates doomsday type headlines such as "BRITAIN IN MELTDOWN HELL" "TAKE SHELTER SNOWS ON ITS WAY" . Perhaps if hitler and his mob and mobile flying rain machines the war would have ended differently , the media try to go for every conceivable angle on the story . "How much snow is there?" "Is there gonna be anymore?" "If so where?" "What type of snow is it ?" . Forget the asian tsunami or hurricane katrina 2 buses yes 2 buses have been cancelled in chichester due to heavy rainfall lets all gather round and analyze the f**k out of it for the next week . Oooh sunshine lets all have a wank !!

I've seen documentaries on rain and clouds etc. on BBC. You Brits really seem to be obsessed with weather....or at least your media.

....or at least your media.

That's it.

We use the state of the weather as a topic for small talk, but that doesn't mean we really care that much. Typically, a conversation might start with something like " cold, isn't it?", or " nice weather for ducks", but it might not be particularly cold, and we probably don't care about the ducks.

How can you not care about ducks.

DUCKS!!!

Well I do care about ducks, obviously, but the point is that I don't really think the rain is nice for them. They prefer sunshine, but people get confused if you say "nice weather for ducks" on a sunny day, unless you then go on to explain their preferences, at which point the person tends to smile uncomfortably and edge away from me.

But even the fuss the media makes about the weather isn't as straightforward as it seems. Take the BBC TV weather forecast, for example. You might expect it to be about the weather, but it's really just an excuse to have an attractive weather presenter say comforting things to us. S/he (usually she) will occupy about a third of the screen for a start; is that really necessary? Do we really need to see her at all? And why do they use so much of their brief on-screen time to say things like "wrap up warm" or "take an umbrella", when they could tell us about the actual weather instead? Why do you think that immediately after the forecast, you very often can't remember a thing about the weather?

Such a great pic!

Heh.
When I was little I'm sure some of them were still using those clouds and suns that stuck on the map. Sometimes they fell off. I miss them.

Hang about, that's the definition of all small talk. We don't really care that much about anything we yammer about.

She's got a warm front . . . .

For a second I thought I am in the "Who Do You Fancy Thread?". :)

I find my local weather girl very comforting. She could be telling me in great detail about some horrific high school massacre and I'd still listen on all cosy with a big smile on my face...
