Miranda - Series 3 Page 22

Watching the main character falling over again and again and behaving like a tit can be tiresome too.

Tell that to Oliver Hardy.

He's dead, but otherwise: Touché.

Laurel & Hardy (apart from being in many aspects different from Miranda) were more consistent I think. Sometimes Miranda is the goofy person in a normal world, sometimes the normal world turns into an LSD dream. I don't know what my problem with this show is.

The fact that I'm in this thread arguing over realism, "good comedy taste" etc. shows that I have some sympathy for this show...which I can't say about that Irish transvestite.

And 100 times better!
My point is that to ask for certain kinds of comedy to be logical or 'make sense' is a pointless exercise.
They work within their own universe - as long as the rules are set out early on and they are consistent, it's OK by me.

That's my point with Miranda. Its universe isn't that clearly defined imo.

Talking of universes, I felt last night's episode actually quite disappointing in places as it seemed to break from the established norms of the show. The extended to-camera cooking sequence, notably. It was, on the whole, still very funny though.

This and the M&S dance number just seemed to tip it over the edge, IMHO.

Previously the "to-camera" asides tended to be just Miranda and were like a less subtle version of Peep Show's inner monologue, we got to hear her thoughts, so it didn't seem like she was stepping out of the scene, where as when the other characters start doing it it seems to completely destroy the illusion of the show having any grounding at all in reality.

Still, it made me laugh on a number of occasions, which is pretty good going for a sitcom these days.

This inconsistency is frustrating me a bit. Just when I think "Ok, Miranda is a cartoon figure in the real world" an odd person with the Name "Dick Twist" arrives or the family of her new lover appears to be almost as wacky as her own.

(And the peeing noises over the baby phone reminded me a bit of the Naked Gun; but that's irrelevant here)

Yes I agree, but it still made me laugh.

I rather enjoyed last night's show as I usually do, but I found the split between Gary and his girlfriend a bit sudden. I didn't think there had been much rivalry hinted at from her side.

If I had one criticism it's that sometimes she seems to try to cram too much into each episode

It leaps from one thing to another constantly and it can be a bit dizzying at times

OMG Miranda Hart lost 2.7million viewers! Why am I not surprised?
Falls over with a grin!

Only because it was up against a new episode of the popular 'Lewis'. And it still pulled in seven million, and beat 'Lewis'! Seven million is a HUGE number for a sitcom. Actually, just a big number for any modern programme.

Simple. Because the previous episodes were broadcast during the viewership explosion of the Christmas/New Year period.

You must work for the BBC!

This was a spoof of Keith Floyd's programmes.
