If I were you I would seriously reconsider that "suit yourself" policy. So long as you're inviting beginners, you really don't want to offer more than a 5 minute slot. Maybe allow the experienced players a bit more time, but you'll regret giving a first-timer the floor for a quarter hour, as will your audience.

Thanks for the advice David. Makes a lot of sense. I'll cut it down to 5 minutes. Cheers

Bristol offers a few venues - although I'm just looking into these at the moment (so no idea of paid etc)

For gigs in South West contact these guys www.eminentbanter.co.uk. They run/book/promote gigs in south west mostly Exeter/Plymouth area. Not sure they do open mic nights but do book emerging acts as fillers to main acts.

Its worth a shot!

Hey everyone

I run two nights in Bristol,

A Man Walks into a Bar at the Lazy Dog in Bristol, it's a place were you can practice 5, 10 and 20 minutes sets as well as compere. £2 for 2 hours of stand up. https://www.facebook.com/bristolpunchline if you are interested in booking slots then email bristolpunchline@gmail.com

Comedy Combo at the Cube Cinema in Bristol https://www.facebook.com/ComedyCombo sets are around 5-7 minutes, It's 90 minutes of stand up and then a comedy film. They have shown the Blues Brothers, Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid and stuff like that. Email cubecomedycombo@gmail.com to book a slot. Looks for acts a little more polished then A Man Walks into a Bar but has a big stage, mic and spot light and an crowd of between 70-100 people.

You should also check out Giggle Byte https://www.facebook.com/gigglebytebristol?fref=ts they aim to promot stand up in and around Bristol and post stuff about up coming gigs.

Hopes this is helpful,
Alice

HEMSevents currently hosts live music nights once a month and is now looking into hosting live comedy nights. We are looking for comedians! We are not too worried about timing slots and all that, we can discuss that in more detail to provide the best for out acts. We currently organize events in Darlaston, near Walsall, West Midlands, but are looking to organize events across the West Midlands.

PLYMOUTH!

I'll be starting a brand new open mic night this June at the Voodoo Lounge in Plymouth!

Tuesday 11th June, to be precise.
Please contact me if you'd like to book a spot, or come down on the night!

With a great success, we could make this a monthly night!

Hi there! Hope everyone is doing well :) I am a newbie around these parts. Yes, n00b alert, so apologies in advance for my numptiness :P

I am currently studying at the University of Warwick and I was wondering if anybody knows of any opportunities for open mic nights around the area (Coventry, Warwick, even Birmingham) or good comedy clubs in general? Also, any good websites for beginners to the stand-up scene that want to perform? Maybe with tips about technique, how to structure a 10-15 minute slot, dos and don'ts etc. And if this post belongs in another part of the forum then please advise accordingly :)

Thanks in advance :)
