Well my advice is, if you hate it that much, unless someone has tied you to a chair, with eye openers a la Clockwork Orange, don't watch it, it really doesn't seem your sort of thing 
Pingl, sometimes the hatred you hear from us is an indication of just how much we love it, when they get it right. High hopes can lead to the greatest disappointments.
Other times, it's just that we love to hate.

Hatred of what is at the end of the day of a TV show is a waste of strong emotions. If after some considerable time you don't like anything at all about a show, I would advise you stop watching it, life is to short. If you are watching a show simply to criticise it then fair enough.
It's not 'at the end of the day' it was late afternoon at best this Christmas.
I take things day by day, I personally liked the fact it had a weak plot, it was a mcguffin that was used to highlight a nice character study, the introduction of a new phase, some humour that the programme has sadly lacked and a nice Christmas feel that didn't seem laboured. I am not a fanboy who blindly loves DW, but credit where credit is due, I liked it. It may well go on some horrible story arc, but this single show delivered.

Then watch again. Then hate again.
People complain when the plots are to convoluted, they complain when they are to simple, this special went back to the more classic approach, the plot was silly but the fun was in the periphery stories and character studies. No mystical crap just a good old fashioned Dr Who special. And I must say it was the Smith show I've watched where his character was pitch perfect.
