Lee, I don't remember any of the first 3 LotR films being hard to understand, but presumably you do have to actually be conscious...having just seen The Hobbit and then re-watching LotR, I must say the old ones were definitely better in a number of ways, particularly Ian McKellan's acting, and the lack of general silliness in favour of drama and pathos; not that I didn't enjoy The Hobbit, it was just a lot lighter.
Looking forward to seeing The Hobbit tomorrow.
I watched a film called Retreat last night, it was quite a downbeat depressing thriller but worth sticking with. Jamie Bell was excellent in it (very attractive too!) shame he doesn't seem to have been around much since Billy Elliott, I imagine he could be huge if given the right roles.

Watched 'Enchanted' on Crimbo day; lovely, funny film.
The black and white version of The Mist that Frank Darabont wanted to release before the studio slapped him down. It does work better than the colour version. More claustraphobic with a classic B movie feel.
Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland; it does for its source material what Stephen Spielberg's Hook did for Peter Pan.* Johnny Depp in particular approaches the part of the Mad Hatter with the exuberant, unrestrained zest of a second Robin Williams.**
*In case anyone has not seen Hook, that is not a compliment.

I love Hook but it's probably not because of Robin Williams as is most definitely because of Dustin Hoffman.
I didn't like Burton's version, but I have no problem with the principle of adapting the source material; Jan Švankmajer's Alice was an absolute triumph.

P.S. I still didn't understand "The Eye" and the pink Orc, were they not the same guy? And who was the guy on the Dragon? And which King actually returned because I saw loads of Kings!

Can't remember a guy on a dragon, but the King referred to in the title, I suppose, is the king of men, so Aragorn.
