I suppose in my mind, an underrated band is one who should have had more recognition and commercial success based on the quality of their music, as well as being acclaimed for influencing the direction of the music scene in general.
Some of the bands mentioned on this thread either a) sold a billion albums and were praised by the music press or b) were so tiny as to not even properly exist in the first place.
That's why I was confused when someone mentioned Beck as underrated. He's been one of the most successful and critically acclaimed artists of recent-ish times. I don't understand how he has been underrated.
I guess it really is all subjective in the end and with that in mind, I'm gonna chuck in This Mortal Coil.
