My Book is free today on Kindle - Get stuck in
I see the gushing 5-star reviews are up already. Nothing suspicious there.
You won't believe me, but they are definitely not made up, I do know two of the people though but they posted without speaking to me. I have no interest in posting fake reviews, I have confidence in the book and it will sell itself once people know it is there
Hence the free promotion today
Currently sitting at #1 in the free download chart in the autobiography/biography section and #11 in the humour section.
It is at #128 for overall downloads
There's nothing wrong with friends and family posting the first few positive reviews. Don't sweat it fella. Good luck.
I had a mate who worked with me in advertising - wrote a novel.
During a recording session with Stephen Fry he asked him if he'd give him a review he could use.
Before he even read it he said " A comedy masterpiece"
That's what went on the front of the book - sold thousands.
They're all at it - and good luck to them.
I think of it as the busker chucking the first quid in his hat. A bit daft but it works.

Yes, you're probably right.
But I do find it odd that bogus reviews on Amazon are tolerated; whilst bogus reviews on here - 'just stumbled upon this YouTube video' etc - are met with scorn.

If we made money out it, we'd probably put up with it, too.
What he ^ said.

Not sure we're on the same page. I meant tolerated by people with NO CONNECTION to the project.
When people post pseudo reviews on here, via multiple accounts, they're basically told to f**k off. When similar tactics are used on Amazon, your attitude is "good luck to 'em".
Why?

Why?
Because I can actually believe in an amateur author's well-wishing aunt posting something nice on Amazon about their darling nephew's magnum opus. What I find a lot harder to believe are total strangers signing up to a comedy forum to spread the good word about a video they have absolutely no connection to.
Earlier on, you endorsed the posting of fake reviews on Amazon, with your busker analogy. But when someone posts a fake review here, it's frowned upon.
What's the difference? Both are lies.

Sorry, I thought I was clear enough in my last post but I'll go again.
My point is that this one might not be fake. I can believe a friend of the OP read his book and did him the favour of giving him a nice review. I'm happy to extend the benefit of the doubt there, maybe because I've had experience of well-wishers finding stuff of mine on iTunes or YouTube and leaving over-enthusiastic comments.

That's your point - this might not be fake? The OP cleared that up before you posted on the thread.
Did you miss it?

Yes, so we're both making points that are in opposition with one another. Being as neither of us is in possession of the facts, we are each relying on opinion and conjecture to back those points up. Now do you have a point to make that might move this fascinating and rich topic forward?
