A question of taste I suppose, but I thought last night was more interesting and less puerile than usual.

Here's why the show is getting unwatchable: Quite Interesting has become Quite Pedantic. Guests are no longer riffing on a broad range of ideas; now, they have to sit politely and say, "Hmm, really?" while Stephen lectures on less and less interesting topics. Why are the writers doing this? And why is Stephen going along with it? Why invite bright and offbeat and chatty guests then not allow them to get a word in edgewise?
Because most of them just spout unfunny shit?

Surely the host's job is to monopolise the conversation, otherwise they just become another guest.
Is the very first episode of the first series worth seeking out. I want to see Fry and Laurie back together.

In my experience the most pedantic people involved in QI are the fans who watch it.
As an American who's been watching since season 2... and who needs to find alternative methods of watching episodes... I have to say that this season is that first about which I've been lax in catching up.
I too find the show less entertaining these last few seasons. Where I used to introduce the show to friends who would become hooked, lately the reactions have been lukewarm. To me, the show peaked between 4th and 7th seasons.
I think most of the regulars have become tired of the premise, no doubt Davies especially. Jupitus and Brand seem like depressed shadows of the guests they once were. Jimmy Carr hasn't had anything to contribute besides that awful laugh in 5 seasons. I absolutely love Ross Noble, but his addition hasn't injected the program with the vigor it once had. It seems like the drive for new regulars is only bringing in the standard comedian fare running the panel circuit, who seem more like they're volunteering to sit at the side of a dying relative than enjoying themselves. On top of all this, the facts themselves don't have the same punch as those in earlier seasons.
I'm still a huge fan of the show - though usually I prefer to watch the XL episodes as there's more of the random chit chat scattered throughout. Also, I find myself increasingly stuck on watching Dave where they pop up more regularly.
Hey why has the final episode of series J (Episode 15 - Just the Jobs) still not been aired yet? I notice it features Jeremy Clarkson. Did he say something stupid to get it pulled again?
