Patrick may have been many things, but one thing he certainly wasn't was ECcentric.

Oh dear, didn't mean to start a row! Often I do, but not this time.

Unfortunately, my good impressions of Patrick Moore were ruined when he recently went on a big sexist rant. Bleh.

Yeah, not cool at all, but he shall remain affectionately in my heart for all he did and knew and achieved that I feel made the world a bit more of a curious place.

Nice to meet you, too.

Laughing out loud

P.S. If I banned everyone who swore at me, there'd be no f**ker left.

Too right. You massive dickhead.

:P

Heh.

Also, charge your iPad!

Hee. That's what I thought! (It's not my pic.)

Oh f**k off with that passive-aggressive mumsnet bullshit.

:O

Bloody hell Jinky, was Patrick Moore your Dad or summit? Seems to be a lot of anger over some doddery old space dude.

Just looked up one of Sir Paddy's sexist 'rants' -

"The trouble is that the BBC now is run by women and it shows: soap operas, cooking, quizzes, kitchen-sink plays. You wouldn't have had that in the golden days'. He basically suggested having one television channel for men and one for women.

Though he would have been more accurate if he'd said the BBC was run by women AND gayers. I guess one person's truism is another person's sexism.

Jinky was Patrick's favourite telescope.

Were you that bloke who wrote to Points of View going "Why why why..."?

With reference to Patrick Moore, his views on women or foreigners aren't really relevant since he was chiefly respected for astronomy and space and stuff. It's a bit Orwellian to start keeping a log of peoples opinions on everything and anything so that we can judge whether they're worthwhile people or not.

I would agree, right upto the point someone chooses to publicise them.
Then it becomes part of their public persona.

To be fair, it's also probably a tad Orwellian to suggest people shouldn't have or express their own opinions about people.
