Who is he?
Alan Moore http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alan_Moore
Writes graphic novels and is excessively precious about them being made into films
Oi incredibly principled sbout not taking the profits
Oh yes, I saw the one with Connery, not a great film
The film was terrible, the closest one to a good match was Watchmen.
But that one got the look and lost the soul.
I found Watchmen absolutely unbearable to sit through. It just didn't work as a film. The opening titles were good, though.
From Hell was alright, if you ignore Heather Graham. And V for Vendetta was good.
V for Vendetta was nonsensical and had massive holes (not least of all this was a distopian future from flipping Boden)
From Hell was so awesome as a comic I really couldn't sit through more than 10 minutes of the film. Might have been good but the bar was set way, way to high.
That's the problem with reading the book/comic first, people are always comparing it to their own perfect imagining of the original rather than viewing it as a stand-alone film.
I think V for Vendetta and Watchmen suffered from too much of a desire to recreate the comics.
Both of which had dated considerably and become cultural artifacts in their own right.
A more confident film maker would have completely made them over. In that way LOEG maybe one of the better adaptations.
Haven't got far with The Stand as I've been too lazy to read, but it's not bad. Fear I may not finish it though due to its length.
