The only modern singer who reminds me a little of the French torch singers is Madeleine Peyraux.

She reminds me a bit of Billie Holliday, too.

Yea especially her vocal delivery. Thinking about it, Joni Mitchell's later work has a Piaf like quality, regret and fortitude, a kind of European sensibility etc

The Rocky Road to Dublin - The Chieftains and The Rolling Stones

Good track but I can't help suspect that the Stones would expect a bit more discipline from guests if it was their album being recorded.

Though Mick does turn in a splendid version of The Long Black Veil.

Lord Bateman - Chris Wood http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V-_sy88Ijo0

Chris Wood's singing style really draws out the longing in this song, it's overwhelmingly beautiful to me.

Aye, love this too. Song and singer perfectly matched.

Ultimate Spinach - Behold and See

My favourite 'psychedelic 60s' album. Sample lyric:

Because I know you'd leave me a burnt-out matchbox of forgotten roses,
Inside a get-well card I had to address to myself

Happy days.
