I'm a QPR fan (with some Exeter on the side), so am neutral in this, but I couldn't disagree more.
Arsenal are competing with teams willing to go massively into debt, or worse-still have vain oil tycoons with no regard for the bottom-line. If something doesn't work, they just spand another few hundred million. Ironically, often taking players from Arsenal.
The fact that Wenger has 14 censecutive CL group stage progressions is a huge achievement for someone who isn't bankrolled with dirty oil money, and has run a steady financial ship while other have gone all-out to bankrupt themselves to compete with the oil clubs.
"Winning a trophy" is bollocks. If Man City/Chelsea don't win the title, they should hang their head in shame, so that just leaves the lottery of a domestic cup.
Ask Birmingham fans how their "trophy" worked out for them.
As AW himself says, incoming players don't ask "Did you win the Coca Cola Cup last season?", they ask "Are you in the Champion's League this coming season?".
Pound-for-pound, best manager of the Premier League era. I hope the debt and oil-money abandon catches up to the Citys, Chelseas and Uniteds, and Arsenal can reap the rewards of their modest long-termism, and desire to show a hint of financial class.
