Nerd/Boffin Technical corner. Page 69

You're going to end up selling it to some batty old woman who only uses it to occasionally Facebook her Grandchildren in Australia.

Cheers, I'll do some more investigating. I don't have the CDs to reinstall the OS, and the factory reset function on my laptop is ambiguous about whether it is going to wipe the OS...

F**k that shit, how many times did you want to punch it in the face when you needed it? Just smash it up. Sorted.

No more chocolate pudding for you, Miss! You're clearly over-excited! I've already got bids for it and I don't think they'll just accept it as fair if I send them a box full of broken plastic!

You're probably right, Lee - but what if you're WRONG!

What brand and model is it?

All factory reset sequences that I have encountered, wipe the whole disk EXCEPT the factory reset partition and then recopy a pre-prepared version of the O/S and the preconfigured software onto the main partition, so that at the next restart the whole computer then behaves the same as when you first bought it. i.e you have to define the date time/country the first user name etc.etc.

Make sure that the label quoting the Microsoft licence key is still attached to the computer and is readable. On a laptop it has usually been stuck to the underside.

It usually takes about 30 mins to an hour to do a factory reset.

Lol at Lee's avatar. Nice work.

:D

If you don't have the restore disks and you are just a little bit worried, I would sell it without the hard drive if your putting it somewhere like ebay, you will still sell it, for a bit less but will have peace of mind.

But now I don't know if it's me or Lee posting.

I can be the second opinion and I agree. :)

Does anyone know how much it should reasonably cost to get a laptop fan cleaned/replaced?

£20-30?

£20-30?

Cheers, just had no idea and my lack of knowledge would be written across my face when I went to a repair place, resulting in muchos spending of money by naive technophobe!

I will clean it for you for £15, if you can give me a bucket of water for me shammy.
