Do Pele eat horses when they die like that?
I read the news today oh boy! Page 1,063

I'm talking about the British middle classes who are arguing over which side is right. Not the actual combatants.
Quote: Pingl @ November 19 2012, 6:03 PM GMTRC don't act dumb, the film company will word it in such a way as to make people believe no animals suffered due to the making of this film or films
Yeah, it's not up to the film company, it's up to the American Humane Society. They provide the certification.
Mostly its just war porn
Quote: Renegade Carpark @ November 19 2012, 6:05 PM GMTAnd finally we have the truth.
Some thought it would never happen, but here we are.
Please tick the box that is most accurate -
1. The Israelis are deliberating targeting Palestinian women and children
2. Out of the 27 animals killed during the making of the Hobbit, most of them were horses
3. Renegade Carpark is wrong, even when he is right

But not the wording which will be manipulated. I still don't see your point, no real surprise there, horses died it is wrong, any animal who dies in the making of a film is wrong. But as long as we can all watch the little Hobbits frolicking in their shire who gives a shit eh!

Your persecution complex is showing again, but knitpicking does not change the truth
Will you all just do it already, the sexual tension is unbearable.

Well, up to a point, there is a definite animal heirarchy based on whether the creatures involved were either very cute or pets, food or pests. If there wasn't such a value chain, then the news headlines would have screamed '12 chickens die in Hobbit filming!'.
So dogs, cats, horses, bunnies, otters, etc. are tops. Sheep, goats, chickens, etc., yeah kind of sad, but they would have ended up in a bap anyway. And bottom of the list - rats, insects, snakes, fish, spiders, etc.
If a cameraman stepped on an ant during filming of The Hobbit, then technically they shouldn't get the certification. But that's why things are put into perspective - for some people anyways.
Again, get up in arms about the terrible farm and the poor treatment of the horseys and ponys, but you know, do it truthfully.

Fair point, maybe I put it strongly, and to be fair I will still go and watch it, but I hate animal cruelty and this kind of thing should not be happening. Having said that my daughter keeps asking me about the insects in I'm a Dweeb, and I don't have an answer, so as I've said before, I've never claimed to be consistent, just me getting on my hobbit horse
Quote: Pingl @ November 19 2012, 6:39 PM GMTjust me getting on my hobbit horse
Ooh, very clever.
I saw on I'm A Celeb someone ate a stick insect. I thought they'd get complaints, as a lot of kids seem to have them as pets. But there doesn't seem to have been a fuss.
I agree it's silly and nonsensical that people make a fuss about kangaroos being killed so some moron celeb can eat their bits, but no one cares about all the cockroaches getting trampled in the same show. (I always feel bad about it though, SOMETIMES even when it's arachnids. Despite the fact I think they should all be exterminated for the greater good.)
Quote: Stylee TingTing @ November 19 2012, 6:36 PM GMTThe term "Israelis", when used in such a context, is misleading and completely dismisses those Israeli opposition movements who are against their government's foreign policy...
But they ain't got no guns or missiles or nothing, they're just a bunch of Jew hippies with too many gentile mates.
As the overwhelming majority of Israelis voted for the current regime and it's hard line tactics against perceived (and actual) armed aggressors. I think using the blanket term 'Israelis' is good to go.
I'm not defending the Israelis, but neither am I beatifying the Palestinians - who also overwhelming voted for a hard line regime that was well fighty. When you put those two scrappers together, well, it's gonna end badly.

Didn't they freak out over a dead rat or something not too long ago? I can't remember the details.
But all unnecessary animal suffering is cruel, of that I will agree. Necessary animal suffering, you know for medicine and stuff is perfectly acceptable.

Yep bit of a dilemma that. But Insects is isects and are hard to defend. The stick insect was dead, although they didn't say how it died, peacefully in its sleep? I have to fight my better self, but you can take this to far. I must admit I have eaten Kangeroo in Australia, but their is a big difference eating something and torturing animals for entertainment. Its a quandary and no mistake.

I do.
I hate that show for that very reason.

No one is beatifying the Palestinians, but Israel can look after itself, it has powerful allies and weapons. Hague cannot go on TV saying they started it and not condemn the loss of innocent lives. It looks ridiculous, especially from the country that started the whole mess in the first place. Both sides have valid arguments, but when Israel is seen to attack a area that cannot defend itself then people must speak out.
