I don't miss any shops, there are other shops that sell the same things, why would I miss a shop? I hate bloody shops and shopping!
Shops you miss. Page 3
Quote: keewik @ November 12 2012, 10:06 AM GMTThere's one in Berlin, if you're desperate.
They're a big European chain; my current coat is from their branch in the Hague.
C&A. You could get some good reasonably priced clothes in there. They were like a slightly classier Primark.
Aw, C&A. Bless it. They used to sell good Christmas tat.
Jack Glinerts in Wilton Way Hackney.
Old style clothiers for those of us with parents short of a few shekels.
And a lovely man to boot.
Though he did get fed up after a half a dozen or so kicks.
Gas and Electricity Showrooms! I used to pay my bills there, and look at latest cookers and fires etc, oh those pre-computer days.
When I created this thread, I thought about Gas and Electricity Showrooms, weird.
Great minds think alike Lee! Round here they called them 'The gas or electric house' ?
W.H.Smiths I miss here, no book-shop that I know of,apart from lots of Charity Shops.

I know, you couldn't even see the gas or electricity when they gave you a demonstration...f**kin weird.
I miss any shops which were idiosyncratic, compared to the identikit high streets we tend to get now, all selling the same sort of soulless, imported crap.
Quote: zooo @ November 11 2012, 9:44 PM GMTWoolworths was where I bought my sweets!
Woolworths used to be a national training academy for youngsters who showed promise with criminal tendancies.
Pick 'n' Mix? It never said anything about 'pay for it too' did it?
I mean where can kids learn to be decent tea-leaves these days? No Woolies, all this online shopping...it's bloody tough you know.
Ok I spose a bit of IT fraud's in order, what with Christmas coming up it's prime time too.
On reflection I spose blagging a macbook online from the comfort of your back bedroom beats nicking some chocolate limes, a Slade 7'' record, and a shatterproof 6'' ruler - then being chased down the High St by some acne ridden trainee manager in platform shoes any day of the week after all.
Index. For a brief shining moment on British high streets two catalogue colossi went toe to toe. The might of Argos finally won but I still have fond memories of the young upstarts Index.
Woolies and Borders as stated, also my local Tesco has replaced the greasy spoon cafe where you could get sausage sarnies and a mug of tea with a Costa which wasn't a nice thing to do.

Borders was great. Although you can still read books and magazines on the top floor of the Birmingham branch of Watersones.
I also miss Tower Records and Virgin. I don't want to buy stuff online.
Savile was well pissed off when Woolies in Leeds closed - it's where he got his kiddie bait from at the pick 'n' mix.
I recall just before they shut down, even the advent calendars had boarded up windows, and f**k all behind them.
