British Comedy Guide

Shops you miss.

A page from THE BIG BOOK OF THREADS by Freve, coincidently inspired by Frangie!

Comet may soon burn out. We've seen lots of shops disappear of the years, which ones do you miss?

I have fond memories of Tandy. I remember the toys scattered around the floor, free to play on. Massive remote control cars and stuff like that. Awesome :)

Our Price!

Aww Priceless!

Going to Woolworths was very exciting when I was a kid. But then I did live in Carlisle.

Athena

Borders

Virgin megastore

House of sodomy and sandwiches

Those weird little indy shops that used to sell computers.

Wimpy

Oh yes, loved Borders. Though hardly ever bought stuff from there; always very pricey. Prob didn't help them with trying to stay in business. Mainly went in to look about.

Oh yes, loved Borders. :(

I still have an Athena.

I liked reading all the magazines on one of their sofas

I do miss Woolies. Wilkinsons have tried to fill the gap but it's not the same.

And John Menzies.

There was a Sci Fi shop in Ilford that sold Doctor Who stuff & had an actual Dalek in there.
I miss that one.

I miss grubby little shops selling niche stuff

Did it have an escalator in it? I used to love going to the Woolies in Workington as it had an escalator up to the toy section. Simple pleasures!

Yes, we know you do. ;)

Small smelly little pet shops

Cages full of manky budgies

Stinky fat rabbits

Gold fish swimming in big tanks of cloudy soup

Lovely

Pets At Home can sit on it
