I thought it might be Virgin's modem, but they say it isn't, and certainly the Wi-Fi works fine on other computers. The Virgin help people wanted to charge quite a bit to diagnose it, so I'll try it myself first. She did mention it might be a problem with the drivers, but how to fix that without being online? There weren't any updates I know of, and I've used system restore anyway. I've run virus checks, and cleaned the registry. What might I try next?
You could try this, it's worked for me before.
1. Unplug modem and router.
2. Plug modem back in, and let it finish booting up.
3. Plug router back in.
4. If still unavailable try the following link.
5. Use command prompt to type ipconfig/release
6. Type ipconfig/flushdns
7. Type ipconfig /renew
Not sure if it'll cure your problem, but it's come to my rescue a number of times (in the past).
