Andy Kaufman: Dead or Alive

I thought I'd ask the question because there is so much disseminating information on the web I can't actually come to any conclusion - is Andy Kaufman still alive? Or did he die in 1984?

Dead

Reason?

He died they buried him. Elvis is dead, Paul MacCartney is alive.

Well, if fat, stupid people on the Internet say he's still alive, based on nothing more then bullshit, then who are we to argue with the hospital, the coroner, the undertaker and the State of New York.

So you don't buy into the whole he faked his whole death as the ultimate practical joke - which would have been very Andy? - some of his closest and dearest apparently still wonder

no he's dead

Not as a practical joke, but so he could fly a jet into the Twin Towers to kill the Zionist bankers who faked the moon landings.

If you listen to an Andy Kaufmann album backwards, it's all explained in Ancient Mayan.

Is this "easiest pub quiz ever"? Dead.

Of course without seeing said documents from the hospital and validating the coroners report there is no empirical evidence to that conclusion. Not that it's invalid. I wonder how many people doubt conspiracies purely based on it being a conspiracy theory and not the official line. We accept things at face value not on the counter-information available.

Just made my point there - sure you can dismiss all conspiracy theorists as nuts and believe whatever newsfeed tells you, which is in itself gullible, or you can look at each idea and said merits of it on an individual basis.

But then you just reduce the argument for absurdum because you want to undermine the discussion.

Without seeing said documents? Who would they show the documents to? Some morbidly deluded Andy Kaufmann fans? I'm sure all of the documents are there for use by authorised personnel.

Maybe that foreign Muslim Obama is behind all this hiding the 'truth' from ordinary people - either him or strict laws regarding privacy and medical records. Damn them, etc.

People love a conspiracy. But if I have learnt one thing, where people see a conspiracy or plain truth, plain truth is probably the answer. Man landed on the moon? Why because the USA have neither the wit or organisational skill for anything else. Princess Diana dies in a car crash, why because car crashes happen, the British government would not risk any such action and couldn't organise it if they wanted to and there was no real reason for this to happen. People die, car crashes happen, governments are stupid. But people love a good old conspiracy or in this case rather pointless and drawn out practical joke.

I can, I will, I do. The Olympics didn't get blowed up and the freaks have only a few days left before the Mayan Apocalypse fails to happen.

As Wikileaks and about a gazillion other scandals have proved, people are too stupid and greedy to have a proper conspiracy these days.

Again reduce the argument to absurdum, it's a great way of not debating anything by dismissing it as ridiculous.

Personally I don't believe the conspiracy theory, it's just that the idea is compelling based on his life's work. And the basis for there being this conspiracy theory is interesting in itself - if there is any truth to seeds of this idea (for example he said he wanted to fake his own death etc. etc.)

And I wasn't dismissing your opinion - just pointing out that you personally have no proof he's dead other than you've been told he is. Simple as that.

But I suppose the ultimate evidence is if he shows up, which he hasn't. And he hasn't, that kind of dismisses the whole idea that he faked his own death but would return after twenty years (based on something he said he was going to do I believe)

he won't he's dead
