And basically if Beckham hadn't had a girlie strop 12 months ago and given up proper football he may have still been picked.
David Beckham left out of England squad Page 5

Are you a female coach?
If not, I'd change your Avatar geezer, it's bloody confusing!
Mine used to be Hattie Jacques...
Hayden who?! The cheerleader from Heroes...(as in my avatar)...the best girl in the world.
Nooo, I'm male. MALE! It's not confusing! Putting a picture of a hot girl as my avatar...how is that confusing?!

Hmmm...not really a girlie strop, since he was in the Real Madrid time and has *at no point* had a "strop" regarding any dropping from any team. Maybe there was some outside of football influences on his decision, i.e. wanting to become famous in America to help him after he retires - but he can't be accused of having a strop. In fact, he should be commended for his attitude:
When McLaren dropped him from the England squad, he was basically saying this is my team, I'm starting anew and Beckham is not going to be a part of it. David didn't retire from international football or complain, instead worked hard, got himself into the Real Madrid side (having been dropped by Capello) and, as many people will tell you, was instrumental in winning Real La Liga last season. He was then recalled to the England squad. Great attitude, unlike many professionals nowadays.
Quote: Badge @ February 1, 2008, 6:37 PMI thought Frankie's point was that England aren't out of the World Cup. Aaron, you appear to be confusing it with the European Championships.
Apart from one having more teams than the other, is there any difference? *shrug*

She's a bit too cheesecakey for my taste. Each to his own!
It's not confusing now that you've explained that the avatar isn't a picture of you!
I'm still not sure that Aaron's avatar is a picture of *anybody*

are you saying Aaron is a nobody!
*banning stick*

...other than himself.
Let me finish!
Put that stick away!
It was only an imaginary stick.
If I had the banning stick I'd probably be the only one left on the site!
I wasn't referring to a banning stick

Don't beat yourself up about it

In effect he retired himself by going to play in America. You can't expect to prepare for playing against world class players by playing "Soccer".

well really.. so what I have to say is a load of old cock is it, how bloody perceptive of you..
I used to hate Beckham during his Man Utd days, but the more the years have gone on, the more I kinda like him. He's a good pro, and recently seemed like the only English player to actually give a damn. Anyway I think he will get his 100th cap during the next set of friendly games in March sometime. And rightly so.
If Beckham does get his 100th cap that's great, as long as Capello sticks to his guns and only selects on merit.
'Friendly' games.. what a bleedin' daft concept!

When I was young (last century) friendlies were almost as competitive. That was before subs were allowed to ruin it.
If they want practice games they should play on a training pitch and not charge entry.
