David Beckham left out of England squad Page 4

Isn't that a good thing though?

No.

If the big clubs didn't have games like those to give their youngsters the chance to play and get experience, then we won't have any "new talent" coming through...one of the major complaints about English football.

These games are a big big opportunity for lower league sides to generate money and reputation for themselves. In many cases it will also lead to gate increases which is an absolutely vital source of revenue for small clubs who don't have the benefit of huge sponsorships etc. Playing or beating a reserve side will do very little or nothing to help struggling clubs.

The big clubs won't risk their young'uns much in the league because there is too much at stake.

In which case all they are doing is hoarding them, which is not good for the player and not good for football in general. It is another example of greed in the top echilons.

Without these opportunities, you'll see huge talents wasted and stuck playing lower league football because they never got the chance. On rare occasions will young English players who don't get the chance to make an impact still make it in the Premiership (e.g. Bentley and Pennant at Arsenal).

Why would they be wasted being loaned or even transfered to a lower club? They are being wasted by being confined to the odd cup game and reserve matches. If they are that good they will shine through wherever they play, will be gaining a name and experience for themselves, and will of course earn themselves a place in their current club (if they are on loan) or a bigger club than the one they are at.

All I can say is England lets us down time & time again. We need a decent manager & for our lads to be more interested in playing than what they look like & what they can earn.

Oh....dear....I'm going to stay out of this discussion because my job is working in football and I wholly disagree with nearly everything being said.

Thats a lie, you don't work in football cos you can read and write

On the point of them being overpaid, which is what I think someone mentioned, they earn wages relative to their industry. If people keep putting money into football, they will keep being paid lots, as prices rise. If you work in the insurance industry and business is booming, you wouldn't expect your boss to turn around and say "yes, we're making lots of money, but you don't deserve any more". Whilst their wages are extortionate, we also forget that they are under intense pressure from millions of fans to perform.

All true, and being a capitalist I agree. But the industry doesn't deserve to make that much, and they just act like spoiled c**ts. If they had some dignity, decency, or honesty, then it wouldn't be a problem. :)

Sorry to disappoint you, but winning a World cup isn't a collaborative effort between us (the fans) and the England players. :(

England won't win anything because the players simply don't give a crap. We like to romanticise and think that the players dream about putting on the shirt and lifting the trophy. They don't. They're overpaid buffoons who will still get their money, win lose or draw (Actually, do players even get paid for international games?? That might explain why they never put any effort in).

Why do you think every year in the FA cup, there's small teams from the lower leagues turning over the big boys? Because they want it more. It's as simple as that.

I'm sure that most of the England players are actually celebrating the fact that they're not playing in the Euro 2008 this summer. They're just gonna be laying on a beach instead, looking like this: Cool

I am not disappointed by your comments but you are totally missing the point.

I'm not interested in collaborating with the f**king semi-brainless plonkers on the pitch, I'm SUPPORTING the Manager!!!

He's going to take that rag bag of f**king over-paid nancy boys and kick ass. And for him it will be personal. And maybe, just maybe some of those pathetic tossers will actually come up with the goods consistently IF he can put the right team together and he motivates them the right way.

Just maybe.

Next time England play I'll be cheering for Capello! ;)

P.S. The fact he is not English is totally irrelevant now. Just get behind the guy, you lards and stop pissing on't fire!!! :)

yep you english lards get behind him and do what you have to do.

I thought Frankie's point was that England aren't out of the World Cup. Aaron, you appear to be confusing it with the European Championships.

Btw, I don't buy the idea that over-pampered players don't care about playing for their country. They all care about it. They've just been badly coached, and probably there isn't strength in depth once a few key players are injured. But now we've got a coach with brains and a track record I'm more optimistic.

Good stuff! :)

Also, he's actually dealt with Beckham in the correct way. Fairly.

The sentimentality around Beckham and his 99 caps is drivel we can't afford.
