1984 is a great album

But getting back to punk

Any of you old f**kers - recommend me some good British old school punk albums

I've got all the usual suspects

Tell me about any obscure band/album I may have missed

Not strictly punk, but what about Kilburn and the Highroads, Ian Dury's first band.

I take it this includes Damned Damned Damned (from a young f**ker)?

The first two albums by the band Suicide..."So Alone" by Johnny Thunders. To name a British band have you tried "Pink Flag" by Wire?

And Nick Cave's early punk band "Birtday Party" is worth checking out. And the first "Undertones" album (before Feargal Sharkey became a pop singer!) is great too.

Oi Sham 69!

The Adverts.

Excellent album.

Or Gang Of Four's Entertainment!?

Are we going too post-punk now?

The only ones

early Boomtown rats

Although some might say they were New Wave Wave

Or Gang Of Four's Entertainment!?

Bought that one a few months ago. Great.

And the first by The Police *cough cough* is punky enough.

lets get serious now,

The Jam
The Specials
The Blockheads

Ha! Young, loud and snotty had been on my amazon wish list for ages!!

Have to move it to the front of the queue

Aye got it

Bit overrated IMO

That's so spooky

Just been reading reviews of that on amazon literally minutes ago

Must be fate!

And not to forget the first P.I.L. album. This was still (art) punk music (listen to "Public Image" and "Annalisa"...not experimental dance pop as in later years.

Inspired by the Stones/Tickets thread I'm asking you which is your favourite Stones album for the desert island? Why and which songs make this your favourite.

Funnily enough for a big rock fan I didn't own a Stones album before the recently remastered Exile.

I loved Bowie, Costello, New Order, Yes, Santana, Curved Air, Free (I'm not being one of those smartarses but Alright Now - although it introduced them to me - is one of my least favourite tracks of theirs.), Faces, Family, Killers, Imelda May Teardrop Explodes, Echo & the Bunnymen, Blondie, Emerson, Lake and Palmer, Love, Small Faces, Supertramp, Bebop Deluxe... the list goes on. I hope this gives you an idea of my tastes but my favourite genre in Blues - R & B as it used to be in the 1960s.

I had the Metal Box but it was unplayable. I kept taking it back but I'm sure they just gave me the same copy again.

Brilliant album, as were the Black Album and Anything.

AND ANYTHING ON STIFF!!!

Oh yes - and John Otway!!!!

Pink Flag is a great album indeed. My punk intake of recent weeks has pretty much just been Nation of Ulysses - 'Plays Pretty For Baby', although for a wonderful example of where the genre has evolved to today 'One Wing' by The Chariot is a bit special. Angriest Christians you'll ever hear.

Must check that out.

Not punk bands, though.

The Saints - an aussie outfit, were pretty pure when they started.
