radio is better

That depends a lot on the station.

...if no-one wanted to be on the telly.

...or more generally, if the people who most wanted to do certain things, weren't allowed to; so the power~hungry were denied power, and the Jimmy Saviles were kept away from kids.

... if everyone recycled.

... if everyone recycled.

The recycling centres can't cope with the amount of detritous they've currently receiving, most of it is still going into landfills.

The world would be a better place if all charity organisations were abolished.

For someone so sniffy about ill-informed tabloid opinions you don't half regurgitate a lot of them...

..better still if there was less to recycle in the first place.

Are you saying that recycling centres are easily able to cope with the amounts of rubbish being sent to them?

Recycling has been a victim of it's own success. Thanks in part to the zealous way in which the UK population has taken to this ultimately pointless exercise in trying to save the planet.

Much in the same way rich landowners donated to the church to assure a place in heaven, recyling has become a way to assauage middle class guilt rather then a concerted effort to spare the environment.

See, now that makes sense.

I don't know if that is true. But I don't know if it's false either, because I've never seen figures which take into account the massive effort required to recycle, and compare it to the resultant benefit (if any). How much energy is expended sending a lorry out, manned by 4 people, to trawl around the streets? How much water do I have to waste cleaning a tin for them? What is the carbon footprint of a massive recycling centre?

A more pertinent comparison would be the wartime request for households to donate their aluminium to help build Spitfires. Everyone felt good about sacrificing their pots and pans, but the truth is, domestic aluminium was not of a high enough quality to be any use at all.
