Silent movies

Firstly apologies as this will probably be in the wrong forum. can't see a relevant forum so hear goes

Recently saw the 2 Robert Youngson films, Golden Age of Comedy and When Comedy was King. basically a documentary with clips of old silent movies, Keaton Chaplin, Lloyd etc.

Finding it difficult to find any other similar films apart from Laurel and Hardy films. I appreciate that a lot of this old material will have been lost, but are there any websites out there that would have things like this

Thanks

Try the BFI a lot of silent stuff is available there. Keaton and Lloyd were wonderful, but I always loved the cross eyed Ben Turpin.

thanks for the info Pingl. The BFI site is a bit of a minefield and as the title suggest seems to focus primarly on British film. Apart from Chaplin most of the artists I am looking for are American, Keaton Lloyd langdon

Yea it is mostly classic British silents and mostly drama. There was a company, in the days of video, that used to specialise in silent comedy. I had some Fatty Arbuckle and the Keystone cops ones. It's hard to get hold of these now. Paul Merton travels the country showing some, I've seen a couple, well worth the trip for the authentic experience, and a good talk by Merton himself who is very knowledgeable. If you have any luck let me know.

P.S Langdon is a pasty faced genius

Agree langdon is a genius and tends to be overshadowed by Chaplin, Laurel and Hardy

Found a decent website

http://silent-movies.com/

There are quicktime clips on their and links to other websites. can't get the clips to play mind you I am away to try and download quicktime to see if that will make the clips work
