Confusion Rains

Ive had an idea, agian. how does this premise sound?

A thirty something lost soul is beaten down by the mundane and banal life he has let become his existence.(lives with parents series of futile relationships with girls he can't shake off)

He finds himself working as a taxi driver.

Fitting one last fair in on the way to a friends wedding(suited and booted) he has to pick someone up from a TV studio.

In a similar way to that guy a while ago ending up on live TV he inadvertantly ends up knocking on the wrong door finding himself at an interview for a weather presenter. Being polite and slightly amused he goes with it and presents a witty and errudite case as to why he should be the next Michael Fish.

I beleive this has legs as the main character would wonder through as an everyman newly exposed to the "media world" maybe narrated with an internal monologue.
Quicly taken to the hearts of the nation maybe poking fun at the celebrity culture who knows even celebrity dancing on ice in stilts.
All just ideas at the moment.

Any thoughts people?
thanks

I dare you to write the pilot.

Hmmm. Is this autobiographical?

Fitting one last fair (sic) in on the way to a friends wedding (suited and booted) he has to pick someone up from a TV studio.

In a similar way to that guy a while ago ending up on live TV he inadvertantly (sic) ends up knocking on the wrong door finding himself at an interview for a weather presenter. Being polite and slightly amused he goes with it and presents a witty and errudite (sic) case as to why he should be the next Michael Fish.

Sort of like "Taxi Driver" meets "Being There" in a UK stylee? (Forgive all the sic jokes - I'm in that sort of mood).

Were you inspired by the story of Guy Goma, by any chance? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guy_Goma

The "everyman newly exposed to the "media world" makes me think Extras, except that Gervais/Merchant got there earlier with a pretty in-depth knowledge of the media world and enough reputation to get stars involved - there's room for another show in that space but it's a tough standard to live up to.

Thanks for the replies.

Yeah Guy Coma was the thing sparked it off.

Not totally autobiographical protagonist I got my own place but the rest is true lol
I suppose its hard not to compare an idea with things that have already been done I was thinking of going more down the line of how ridiculous the media hype can get rather than involve "stars" how the media can make a celebrity out of who it chooses rather than any particular talent. With maybe a more surreal exagerated charcatures of inflated egos.

anyhow I am new to all tis and am struggling a bit bringing ideas together under some sort of structure.

And (sic) new to the site what am I missing here??
