A scifi TV thread on a comedy forum

The subject of scifi seems to raise its head around these parts an awful lot.

Is it because it attracts the same sort of clever but geeky fans? Or is it because the two cross over so much.

There's a lot of scifi sitcoms; Goodnight Sweetheart, Small Wonder, Red Dwarf etc.

And a lot of sitcoms have a lot of scifi elements. Such as the alternative future episode or all the episodes in OFAHs featuring Del boys gadgets.

And on the flipside scifi is often at it's best when it's funny. From Tribbles in Star Trek to Wormhole Extreme via the Lodger (one of Sootyj's fave Dr Who's ever).

One of the best Star Treks Ds9 had at least 2 permanent semi comedic double acts.

So what do you lot think?

Live Long and chortle!

I think you're doing A+B = 42 with your reasoning. Also failing to mention both HHGTTG and Big Bang Theory means you must hand in your Spock ears, tricorder and light sabre to Reception.

However, I do think both genres require a certain amount of collusion with the audience to suspend disbelief. They exist in their own realities, far removed from any semblance of the actual world and when held up to scrutiny, both can be easily dismantled.

Also, nerds like wasting time on Internet forums.

Wormhole Extreme

'Does it say Colonel on my uniform?'

Always go with a list of 3, so I went with some unconventional ones.
