Since the beginning of time and man first stood on a shitty piece of land and said this shitty piece of land is mine, people have fought over the shitty piece of land until the shitty piece of land was shittier. You know I was going to butt out of this, but it is an interesting discussion. Ok first of all the use of the term aparhteid is astonishingly enough equally as offensive to racist Arikaaners and recent imigrants well done RCP!
So about 5 years ago whilst working for an inner London authority I was setting up care packages for adults with learning disabilities. Quite a few of whom didn't speak any English at all. So I was trying to set them up with carers who were bilingual. Turned out to be almost unbelievably difficult. Because almost all the blingual people in Turkish, Somali etc only wanted to work as translators. The translator job paid twice as well as the carer job and most of them had lousy attitudes towards the clients. So the choice I was expected to make by my employer. Was to provide support at 3 times the cost, with 2 members of staff one of whom looked down on the other one and the client.
In the end I ended up hiring people who spoke their own language and pidgin English, or staff who could manage without speaking the appropriate language.
The almost obsessive provision of translation services and lack of expectation that people should learn English. Put me in the position of being expected to provide a rubbish service and one so ruinously expensive; other clients would get none at all.
And where as I believe anyone who wants to work in London should be supported to be able to live somewhere. Conversley if you are not prepared to work or develop the crucial skills to do so (such as basic English). Then frankly you should be living on the Isle of Sheppy.
We just need to create a new crime of "Taking the F**king Piss".
Seems to me it would just about cover everything that hacks off the 'average' citizen who tries his hardest not to take the piss.

nb this is a bit of a dead herring.
As it applies to any family with a bumper bundle of kids irrespective of race. There's not that many families with so many kids.
But the real issue is how do you help working families with lots of kids.
nb if you cut benefits etc these families will just dump the kids on the state. And then the benefits bill is about 10 times as high.

The problem is taking the piss is all too often a sin carried out by governments and government agencies. The dole office will only allow you to do their courses and work placements. Even if you find a better one (and there's are usually beyond crap).
It is a heated subject and I thought twice about getting involved, but there you go. Anyway it is essential that people intergrate, learn the language etc. The great difficulty is overcoming bureaucracy, lack of will, fear of new places, clinging to what you know etc. It is up to government to get all these things in place, if they do not then things will only worsen. People must feel that immigrants are adding value to culture and economy. There is an argument that more immigration not less would help solve the present financial situation. Before people get up in arms I am not advocting this, but without some immigration countries whither and die, new blood is essential to keep the body politic moving.
Well a classic foolishness. Is councils pay a fortune in translaters; actual translaters, printing multiple copies of documents, phone translation. But almost nothing in TEFL courses.
Idiocy. And it should be compulsory to atleast try to learn English.
To prevent the situation where dad learns english but bans mum from learning English to keep her more firmly under the thumb.

I could have used Segregation, but that has a much more American civil rights movement tone to it - and we all know how much liberal Brits hate Americans, even Afro-Americans.

I really don't know why they bother - they should just give every kid an 'A' grade, it doesn't make a jot of difference to the job market or number of kids now applying for university.
Well it does when a Cambodian kid whose been growing rice 20 hours a day since the age of 2, can give a more nuanced essay on Of Mice and Men then the star pupil of St Shitsworth Innercity Academy for the Ungifted.

Are you really saying kids are being robbed of the school of their choice because of immigrants. How many poor immigrant families can afford to move to the affluent areas where the good schools are. It's white middle class parents desperately scrambling to get there kids into schools that causes the problem. Little Tarquin is so gifted, I know he bites people, but that's because he's so bright, he gets frustrated.

I think you might be wrong on this statement - every parent, including working class and newly arrived immigrants, are trying to send their children to the 'good' school - even Hackney MP Dianne Abbot sent her kids to a mostly white private school.
I think you'll find that prejudice is not solely restricted to one division of society.
I didn't say that all parents weren't trying to find the best schools, or at least most. I said the problem was caused by the little Jocinda's, River's , Blueberry Bush's, whatever they're called, and I'm afraid prejudice breeds prejudice
