What ever happened to critique? Page 11

It's good to get positive or negative feedback rather than none surely? As long as it's not rude, I don't see the problem. How are wannabe writers supposed to learn otherwise? I think some of the more prolific writers here forget everyone has to start somewhere.

I think that, generally speaking, criticism is a healthy thing. On another note, I'd like to see more people having a bash at prose. IMO If a tale doesn't work as prose, it won't work as anything.. just my opinion.

Prose by any other name would smell as sweet?

Ah..Hi

This is my first post on these boards. I'm part of a small writing team (if you don't count the waiste lines)

We started working on a Seven part Comedy Drama last Christmas. So its neither a Sitcom or a sketch show, although it draws elements from both. We had a fairly good response to the first script, then as we thought we started to improve got accused of being to different and not fitting channels 'required branding or formats'. Perhaps nievely we thought if it made us laugh throw it in..

Anyway cutting to the chase (And as our spelling aint that great) we decided to record it ourselves taking it from a single camera project into the world of I guess old fashioned radio. Although we are trying to figure ways of finding an audience through Twitter, facebook and Utube. The idea is to create series of 21 downloadable 20minutes.. So that should take about two years at the current pace.

So thought was where to start posting stuff to get feedback and create internet traffic and this seemed like as good a place to start as any..

The question was Showcase or Critique? So I've followed this thread with interest.

I guess I see it two ways. If you don't have faith and belief in what you are doing then why bother? On the other hand you can't do everything in a bubble without listening to what others have to say are you in danger of disappearing up your own...

So over the next few months I'll drop some stuff into the critique. I'll put up the recordings rather than the scripts (as I said I can't spell) But any comments critisisum critisisum criticisium (FEEDBACK) would be most welcome. Thanks for your posts they have been most useful.

Anarcho Punk scene.

:)

Hi

I'll keep an eye out for your project with interest.

Must admit I'm having increasing difficulty following some of the stuff posted because of the poor grammar, spelling, punctuation. It seems to be getting worse and worse. Are posters lazy or ignorant? For instance, what the Hell is a MINOR bird? Is this a joke I'm missing? I ask this genuinely.

A VERY YOUNG bird.

As opposed to a canary which is a miner bird.

Then all I can say is - what the Hell are teachers being paid for?

Laughing out loud

I'm of the mind that if you want people to put time and effort into giving you critique, you should put time and effort into making your work as readable and clear as possible.

Couldn't agree more, but there seems to be an attitude that if it's brilliant comedy (according to the writer) you can post whatever shitty grammar/spelling/punctuation that you like.

Yeah - and if you pick them up on it they usually shout you down with the excuse that they just dashed it off without thinking - that's how bloody prolific they are.

Truth is, 99% of the time, shit presentation goes hand in hand with shit work.

I agree Lazzard and recently it seems to be getting worse.

We have all dashed an idea off while it was hot but wouldn't dream of presenting it until it was tidied up and checked.

I fear I may be for the cane on that one.

However, 'Kall' sucked so hard (see signature), that his clusterf**k actually became brilliant as a result.
