Ok, this is still the critique forum, so if you wouldn't mind staying on topic please?

:D

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe there's no option to post as attachment scripts in word document or pdf in the critique forum. But I may be wrong. I know sometimes there are links posted by some posters but mainly they seem to be linked to YouTube videos or someone's personal web page.

The reason I bring this up is because I have noticed some posters, admittedly in the minority, who have started a new thread in critique and who have then gone and typed out an entire 30 minute sitcom script. It's just a tough read in that format. If you could open an attachment of a script it's perhaps a better reading experience, although it would still be depending on the quality of content, but I'm sure you get my point.

Just some thoughts.

I agree about the formatting: fine for sketches, hard slog for sitcom. Perhaps for sitcom, a one scene 'taster' should be posted with a link to a Google Docs .pdf/read-only .doc file? Or Circalit upload? Circalit also has the review feature enabled there, along with star rating, so we could use those as a tool for sitcom critique instead of making Aaron recode his website.

Immediate downside is that Circalit requires password, but that might actually be of benefit cos the trolls won't want to register to slag things off, so reviews should be genuine.

It's kind of social media writing too, by the looks of it -- I haven't used it in any great depth -- so you can set up a circle of trusted 'friends' I guess. That will help the clique! :)

Dan

That looks promising. The password thing shouldn't be a problem for most...it's not like they're asking for all your personal details. Nice find.

I believe there is an option where you can restrict who can read and review your work on Circalit...

Not only, but also, you can now link directly to your work without having to log in etc...

Some sort of star system for quality critique-givers.
(Impossible, I know)
Theres' some shockingly poor advice gets doled out..
The savvy writers may choose to ignore it, but some newbies are being led right up the garden path.

Seriously? Hope you don't mean me.

I get paid to give comedy critique believe it or not.

You know I don't mean you.

It's just that sometimes you see something that, in your opinion is sadly misguided, but know that if you stepped in you'd start some bloody flame war - then you see the OP make the changes (for the worse) and then sort of feel you should have said something.

I'm waffling.

Actually having stirred critique up. I'm keeping out of it pretty much for the moment.

There seems to be some duff writing, good writing and deliberately bad writing.

But it's all getting a similar response. So I'm steering clear for a bit.

Really that "you know" is the second nicest thing anyone's said to me all week.

The nicest was when a client said in my feedback I was "error free"

Tell that to Robin Hood! See how he likes it!

Being dyspraxic I thought he was just a hood who liked robin'

He's a big man in the hood!

Yes - that is getting a bit tiresome.

As ever it's the encouragement from other posters that baffles me

Many of whom only ever pop up to comment on each other.

At what stage do you start trolling yourself?
