Probably the grayist area in the history of gray areas.
I agree with everything that Aaron says, and tbh it annoys me when people laugh at one type of joke then flame someone else for mocking a subject they are personally sensitive about.
For me, mocking a dead/missing child is and can never be a funny thing, but if someone else laughs I'm not gonna attack them for it. It's their choice and none of my business - maybe they are even more sensitive about it than I am, but deal with it by joking? Who knows?
I'm also sensitive about Holocaust jokes both because I am Jewish and because it was just plain sick. Again, if someone wants to make a joke about it then that's up to them - I just won't respond to it and won't even read it if I can help it. But if I saw them later on whining about something that affected them I would certainly come down on them and remind them what feckin hypocrits they are.
I also think our attitudes towards something are dictated to a very large extent by the media. All the political correctness shit that started springing up for instance was thanks to the media and we all rolled with it straight away. I actually think that crap makes things worse. A friend of mine really made me laugh once when he said something like 'you can tell you're a Jew mate just by that fork you keep in your sugar bowl'.
So I took the piss back, which for me is far better than walking on eggshells and being uncomfotably careful all the time not to offend.
