I'm not sure it's really clear that that was the intent of your thread...

I remember fondly that a Ken Dodd thread once descended into open warfare and had to be closed down.
It's stupid...some poeple should take a cold shower and THEN return to the forum.

Possibly the most insane day on BCG forums record.

In my experience on forums (I've had a bit), personal gripes hardly ever go to PM...which is where they should go. There's a lot of bravado in the open forum and, although it often starts as little digs here and there, it can soon escalate to a full-blown slanging match. I've seen a lot of showing off in my time. Nobody wants to be seen to have backed down.
That said, some arguments can represent the differing views of other forum members and I often sit nodding at the different perspectives presented...feeling it unnecessary to chip in. However, this is sort of like sitting back and watching a virtual finger-pointing session...waiting for it to explode into a full-on fist fight. What should I do? Join in and support one or other side to make it less personal between the two? Or, should I just sit back and watch them go at it? Thankfully, the moderators take this out of my hands. That's why they're here.
It's the nature of the beast, but lines have to be drawn somewhere. These lines may not suit everyone, but it has to be done. I've had disagreements on forums before and been 'told off' by moderators. No, they're not my dad and most are much younger than me, but they are in charge of a forum I want to post on, so I behave. If I don't want to abide by a forum's rules, I don't have to post on it. Nobody's forcing me. It's not a service I'm paying for and the moderators aren't being paid by anyone to sit and sift through countless threads/posts to make sure things are running smoothly.
I have to say...I can't imagine the regulars on this forum meeting up and hurling the level abuse at each other that they do here. The internet is great isn't it? I'm looking forward to testing out this theory on the 22nd. If I return home with two black eyes and a broken arm, I'll let you know.
Is this the right place for an argument?

I have the sound file for that on my PC somewhere. I used to use it on mIRC when I entered a 'room'. I think it was, 'Is this the room for an argument?'. Funny memories. Sometimes I used flush.wav too. Wow...showing my age.
