Online bullying Page 3

I think it's pretty safe to say unless you've been repeatedly punched and kicked in the face and had your money / trainers / phone, etc. taken off you by a gang of vicious kids on an almost daily basis, you really don't know what bullying is.

Some teenage girl calling you a 'lying slag' or whatever on Facebook is pretty minor in comparison.

Come on RC, you must be doing this on purpose. It obviously exists, in most cases minor, but it has lead to pretty horrible outcomes in some cases and should be addressed. It's not somethig to take the piss out off or to try and make the victim out to be weak so it's their own fault. Just be decent and play nice.

Not so much a competition but degrees of severity. Concentrating resources on online bullying instead of real life bullying seems a waste of time and money. Get rid of real life bullying and the online bullying will disappear. The converse will not be true.

You can't completely get rid of real life bullying because people are c**ts, the ideas is absurd, you can only try to deal with it and manage it, the same as online bullying. Some people can be affected more by the psychological aspects even than the real life boot to the balls aspect. BOTH should be treated and taken seriously.

I pretty clearly said 'internet bullying', what you're talking about is physical bullying and a totally different subject. Which no one was even comparing except you.

Please explain the differences to me and why I shouldn't compare the two forms of bullying.

It looks like regular bullying to me, but with the added use of technology - like dating, fraud or car insurance, they've just put the word 'online' in front of it.

I think people are so much c**ts that you'd be hard pressed to lessen the amount of bullying already going on.

You can do what you like!

I'm pretty sure earlier on you were saying online bullying didn't even exist.

Shut up and give me your dinner money, gay boy.

I'm not taking the piss, I am, however pointing out that it's a minor problem compared to other forms of bullying and the Internet in general. You have to put these things in perspective so hysterical Daily Mail reading luddites can't give the UK Government an excuse to censor or block Internet access.

'Won't someone think of the children! Etc.'

No, I'm pretty sure I said it was a very minor occurence and that the media was blowing it out of all proportion.

Those damn Daily Mail liberals!

Those damn Daily Mail liberals!

:D

Yes, cos all of us on the BCG are always going on about what big fans we are of the Daily Mail and everything it says. Thank God we've got RC to show us the way... Errr

You are truly blessed. Go in peace my child.

I want to make sure I understand these posts correctly; are you saying that if real life bullying was stopped, online bullying would stop too, but if online bullying was stopped, real life bullying would continue?

Are you saying that there is no difference other than terminology? Isn't online fraud as serious as real life fraud?

Are you saying that online bullying is not as significant as real life bullying?

Yes - mainly because you can't send your fist down a broadband cable and punch someone's teeth out.

RC's one of those simple souls who thinks physical effects are always worse than psychological ones. ;)

RC's one of those simple souls who thinks physical effects are always worse than psychological ones. ;)

Some people have never been physically attacked, when it does happen, the combination of the physical and psychological is much worse then the psychological alone.

Again, there is a massive difference between having sulphuric acid thrown in your face or being called a 'fat slut' on Twitter.

I think I'd rather judge it on a case by case basis, rather than declaring that all physical bullying is worse than all non physical bullying. But that's just me.
