White cig packs in stores? Page 7

Cigarettes have a similar effect on your heart as fatty foods. But smoking a few a week is not going to harm anyone. Or make you blind or impotent or any of the hysterical shit they print on the boxes now. And only 17% of smokers die from lung cancer which might surprise some people.

Obviously I'm not saying that smoking isn't harmful but there's an obvious problem with putting the control of something into the hands of people who don't do it.

Non-smokers who approve of plain packaging and graphic warnings should transpose them to lager cans or chocolate bars and then decide how they feel. The government could easily decide to put a photograph of a cancerous breast on a chocolate wrapper as this is one of the illnesses associated with obesity.

17% is about 1 in 6 that's a lot. And that's not including all the other cancers, increased heart disease etc.

But you're right alcohol and junk food should have the same rules applied.

Burger King, McDonalds etc all know they have certain food items with a hi caloric value aimed only at the morbidly obese (heavy users as I believe McDonalds term them). Not to mention skillfully avoiding admiting how pester focussed and addictive their kids meals are.

And Tenants, Carlsberg and White Lightning no exactly who buys booze over 9% by volume.

The bull shit double standard needs to stop. It really doesn't help.

Fried chicken shops should be as unwelcome near schools as porn shops.

The age of the idiot.

eh?

We have to be protected from ourselves. :)

This is Britain, we love complicit totalitarianism. We're not afraid of Big Brother because we are Big Brother. Having an unnecessary pop at someone because of trendy / snobbish behaviour is our stock in trade.

Honestly, if you put your recycling in with your normal rubbish, there'd be more of an uproar then if you'd kept your neighbours awake at night half beating your wife to death.

Cigarettes, guns, off roaders, hunting, getting drunk - in fact anything that doesn't directly appeal to the sensibilities of a middle class, middle England, Apprenctice watching, cycling to work, pseudo-liberal brain dead consumer is considered worse then any of Hitler's atrocities.

It's neither of those things to think smoking is stupid, just common sense. And yes, it's also common sense to think eating fatty shit is bad , too.

If only it was confined to 'thinking', but instead uselessly petty busy bodies with no lives of their own, often interfere in the lifestyles (and laws) of this country, much to it's ultimate detriment.

:D Not! reactionist rubbish, look to other causes of ill health, alcohol, fat, and driving, All ignored but unhealthy and costs NHS millions.

Ah..but still - an obese alcoholic driver is surely healthier, and therefore less of a burden on society (and themselves), than a smoking obese alcoholic driver.

Just a thought?

That was funny Brian, very funny Laughing out loud

Yes, very good.

But can you die from passive McDonalds?

Possibly the first sensible thought in this thread.

Surprised me, those are the sort of odds you would get as a subaltern on the western front.

You could probably die from a massive McDonalds - especially if you ate enough of them.

Some people say Campbells's products are just as much off a health risk. Im not sure, I mean Campbells v McDonalds....surely that would be a massacre?

Not only is smoking bad for you - it's one of the leading causes of statistics....

I meant could you die from somebody else eating a McDonalds - like you can die from other people smoking.

I don't give a toss about anyone killing themselves by smoking. What I do resent is having to breathe in their f**king smoke - especially around pub doorways!

There's not even conclusive proof that you can die from passive smoking.

Don't like the smell of spliff when you're buying your heroin?
