Aren't all acronyms abbreviations, although most abbreviations aren't acronyms.
For example, the word ACRONYM is itself an acronym, and also an abbreviation of the phrase, "Actually Can Read Out Normally Yet Mostly Symbolic" which is what acronym means.

Thanks for the interest. I'm not really "from" anywhere, I'm just lurking (well, de-lurking now) and dabbling.
I haven't posted an introduction as I'm trying to keep a low profile (you never know who might be reading this stuff).
As far as comedy goes, I quite like the new dark stuff (Peepshow, Julia Davis, Chris Morris, etc) but I don't consume a lot of telly; I mostly listen to the radio. I've heard some nice comedic things on Radio 7, usually in the small hours of the morning, but I don't really remember what they're called.
BTW, I hope you don't get me into trouble with the moderators by luring me into posting this introduction in a discussion thread!
