The Loved Ones. Splendid Australian horror movie about a demented misfit and her equally demented dad. Good enough to stand alongside teen horrors like Carrie, Teeth and Ginger Snaps.
I've just seen... Page 304
Shutter Island, with you guys mentioning it I thought I should take a look. Felt like a Kubrik imitation with a very disappointing (and obvious) conclusion. Loved the music though - you don't hear a lot of Penderecki and Mahler in film soundtracks these days. And Richter's Nature of Daylight is always so moving no matter how often I hear it. I didn't care for the botched mix of Dinah Washington's This Bitter Earth and Richter's piece - all the artistry of a 5 year old jamming lego up his nose.

The end was dog shit. You guess what is probably going to happen right from the opening minutes and assume, because it is so obvious, that there will be a different twist. I waited. There wasn't. Bunch of arse. Up until the cack 'twist', it was a good watch.

Exactly, I think they must assume that they're just scattering clues so that we can look back and think "Oh! Of course." but they seem to have forgotten that we've all seen this sort of thing before and if they want to suprise us they have to be much more clever about it.
Quote: chipolata @ August 23 2012, 8:37 PM BSTGod save us from people who brag about how they guessed the twist before it happened.
Yeah, I was bragging. I'm a big man. (Though in this case, I didn't know there was supposed to be a twist)
Quote: chipolata @ August 23 2012, 8:43 PM BSTI know.
Always a pleasure to chat with you, let's not do it again some time.
Good grief Chip you're turning into the aspartame of the BCG.
The Fast And The Furious. It's essentially Point Break with cars. And without the intelligence or wit. That said, it has a mindless charm. I'm looking forward to watching the other four.
2 Fast 2 Furious. It lacks the gravitas of The Fast And The Furious, and you do miss Vin Diesal, but it's still pretty fun.
But he was probably making The Chronicles of Riddick, so its not all bad.
Just watched the last half hour of Dirty Harry . . . class !
I finally caught up with 1994 last night and watched Schindler's List. Merely thought it was ok. Wouldn't watch again.

How can you say that? It was shot in black and white and wasn't funny, therefore it was serious art and we must all kneel before it.
That's a good point, Nogget. I have to say, though, that my favourite holocaust based film remains The Pianist.
One holocaust film which has the guts to give us the story from the side of the oppressors as they slaughter the innocent is Zulu.
