Oh.
We really need an " I wasn't offended by your unintentionally anti-semitic, but now I think about it, crass remark" emoticon

I hate all emoticons.
We need a year zero on them.

We have a new rwayne.
eh?
Quote: Harridan @ August 23 2012, 1:18 PM BSTWill you stop saying 'murdering' like a great big stupid american pro-lifer from the westboro church?
I apologise if my choice of words for the deliberate and calculated abortion of an unborn child are disturbing you. I will use termination of life from now on.
And yes, I have been playing Devil's Advocate throughout this debate, I know women who've had abortions and it has effected them deeply and none of them elected for the procedure lightly.
I was just trying to draw parallels between one form of state sanctioned life ending versus another in an attempt to broaden the argument. Choosing who lives and who dies is a moral dilema and shouldn't be taken lightly.
Quote: sootyj @ August 23 2012, 1:24 PM BSTeh?
He used to go on and on about how much he hated emoticons. It was a way of proving his smug superiority over all of us.

Well don't I feel foolish for all those whimsical abortions I had!
I've never liked emoticons.
Rwayne disliked lots of stuff. That's like comparing me to Hitler because I like asparagus.

Hey, I've met nannys before and not a day goes by without them thinking about child murder.
Quote: sootyj @ August 23 2012, 11:32 AM BSTI think the UK is pretty consistent. The state has not the power to take life in any circumstances.
I was thinking more of the complexity of morals and mores involved in being human, and indeed humane.
Quote: Renegade Carpark @ August 23 2012, 11:49 AM BSTNot to mention abortion. It's difficult being pro-choice and anti-death penalty and pro-assisted suicide - you either value human life or you don't - or you hypocritically pick and choose and lambast the opinions of others.
I think others have said everything that needs to be said to this, so will resist rising to the bait on this occasion

Quote: sootyj @ August 23 2012, 1:05 PM BSTWhat about freezing your spunk.
Tried that once, but my nan preferred a Cornetto.
Just one Noggetto give it to me...
Just to clear up the spunk (oo-er!) is murder argument. Sperm on it's own can't create life, in the same way an egg on it's own can't reproduce. So every wank / period isn't the death of a baby.
So carry on masturbating / ovulating at your leisure.

I'll pass on the frozen jizz pops, thanks.
You seem to be of the opinion that the second the egg and sperm meet - there exists an 'unborn child', to me that's silly (which is fine, everyone has a different view of when something can fairly be referred to as an unborn child).
Anyway, so to you, a woman taking a morning after pill because the condom broke (for example) is 'murdering an unborn child'.
I find that concept as ridiculous as calling a sperm an unborn child.
That's all I was saying.
Quote: zooo @ August 23 2012, 4:49 PM BSTYou seem to be of the opinion that the second the egg and sperm meet - there exists an 'unborn child',
Not really an opinion, more a kind of scientific fact, as any fertility clinic will tell you. Do they all develop into children? Nope. Do they all have the potential to develop into children? Yep.
There are different forms of Morning After Pill, most in the West work by stopping ovulation, so the sperm and egg never meet and conception is avoided. There are however, abortion pills, that actively destroy fertilised eggs, but they are only available as emergency contraception in Russia and China.
Hmm, I'm now trying to rationalise a society in which an abortion clinic and a fertility clinic can co-exist in close proximity. Seems somewhat incongruous on a morally conceptual level.
Isn't life strange?
