Capital punishment - yes or no ? Page 6

Quote: zooo @ August 21 2012, 2:39 PM BST

Yes, that's what I mean. A man might murder a kid and get 10 years, a woman will likely get 20 for the same crime.

Shall we do a test, zooo? Me and you will both murder a sprog and see who gets the biggest sentence and most villified in the press.

You go first.

Can I grass you to the fuzz for the reward money please?

Wasn't Alien 3 another? Also episode 2 of Blake's Seven, when Blake rescues Gan and Vila from the prison planet (slightly embarrassed at knowing this stuff).

And in Doomsday Scotland had been walled up and turned into a prison.

I thought about doing this, but I just hide the story from the News Feed. Some people are morons.

Hadrian was ahead of his time.

He might get Clemonsy.........Sorry

I read that and it's shocking.

It just goes to show the death sentence is used more often than not.

Too clear irritating crimes from police records and move on.

If they are guilty of fabricating evidence and torturing people into confessing, which results in an innocent person being put to death, are the police liable for murder charges?

They also have the right to carry guns, which does not perhaps make theme the best control group for this particular social experiment.

The Swiss have the right to carry guns but there is virtually no gun crime, Finland, Canada and various other countries also have large amounts of people owning guns but low rates of murder, so it's clearly not just gun ownership that is the problem.

Quite. China has the death penalty for numerous offences, especially corruption involving big, big money. Yet corruption remains widespread. The death penalty is used by the Communist Party not to eradicate corruption but to deflect public cravings for reform, and to create the illusion of justice. Interestingly, some Chinese women been desensitized to images of people (corruption felons) getting shot in the head - and seeing the head and brain explode into pieces, yet feel squeamish about images of snakes and spiders. I still feel repulsed by seeing a head get blown apart.

Texas got caught not so long ago hiring special needs educators to help people with low IQs on deathrow pass IQ tests with a higher grade.

That said if I was on deathrow and I needed to look stoopid to avoid the needle. I can assure you they'd be getting a piece of paper back with "Kill Ned Flanders" on it 20 times each with a diferent spelling.

And a big poo stain.

Besides low IQ doesn't mean incompetence or innability to understand the gravity of one's situation.

Indeed. IQ tests aren't all that brilliant in general, let alone when someone's life depends on them. And the fact that they don't take the Flynn effect into account shows that the IQ testing system is unfounded guesswork at best

IQ tests are very much a measure of education and learnt skills.

Anyone who tells you they measure inherent intelligence is a dingbat.

So oddly enough they theoretically could allow poorer, less educated murderers off the hook than better educated ones.

The measure of abbility to take responsibility for ones actions and understand the consequences is, well difficult. Does a genius psychopath with no empathy have less accounting for his actions. Then a learning disabled man with many friends and social relationships and aparent empathy?
