What are you watching on TV? Page 1,637

I've got Peter Kay 'The Tour That Didn't Whatever' thing on at the moment. Whilst I think he is a very talented performer, the material is starting to get on my nerves a bit.

Listening to him go on, I feel like I've lived through a post-apocalyptic catastrophe and everything has been reduced to rubble - 'Do you remember supermarkets? Do you remember running water? Do you remember when mutant worms weren't trying to eat our three headed lizard babies?'

Say what you like about him. A bloke who can sell out the 02 15 nights in a row by playing air guitar with a garden spade is a f**king genius.

Money for old rope, Beardy Branson is mightly pissed off he didn't think of it.

Admitting you have a problem is the first step to recovery. For every hour of Celebrity Big Brother you watch, I'm prescribing two hours of BBC Four. Watching a fascinating documentary about the History of Roundabouts will cleanse your tainted chakra of watching dumb celebrities doing nothing.

My chakra is well bleached. Unimpressed

RC's only watching TOWIE anyway.

I can't afford the porn channels, so needs must, etc.

His comedy appeals to moronic masses who revel in fake nostalgia and respond like chimps looking in the mirror whenever Peter Kay reminds them of human behaviour.

'You do that Sandra! You put butter on your toast! Hahhahaha!'

Except obviously the sublimely brilliant That Peter Kay Thing, which is one of the best comedies of the last fifteen or so years. Easily as good as The Office.

He's definitely done good work, especially his earlier TV work. I enjoyed some of his earlier stand up too, but then I am a moron.

I agree he call pall a little - but ask what the 1.2 million that bought tickets for his last gig thought.

Seems a little big that number but I am sure I read that figure somewhere

Totally agree. Paul McCartney was great when he was in the Beatles. So let's compare apples to apples in a more contemporary context.

Because ticket sales equal quality. Those same 1.2 million probably bought tickets for 'We Will Rock You' and the 'X Factor Live' tour. Their opinions mean nothing to me.

Peter Kay is a likeable and talented standup who seems to have found a very profitable little niche, good for him.

The shame is that with Dave Spikey et al he's created some of the best comedy and dramedy the UKs ever seen. Butthat's not what makes the really big bucks.

Well, sooner or later all artists lose their shine, whether they're Woody Allen, Ricky Gervais or Stephen Spielberg. If they're lucky they have flashes of their old brilliance now and then, but most slide into comfortable mediocrity.

I think he is extremely imaginative and naturally funny, but it all seems to be a cyncial cash grab now. 'Come on retards, sing along with Amarillo with me, you like a sing-song, you f**king brainless cash machines'.

Does anyone ever get the vibe that R.C is a bit cynical?

Yeah, but only as cynical as The Stones, or The Who playing their greatest hits to packed houses.
He's done his time, now he's reaping the rewards.
And people genuinely love him - they have a bloody good night out.
To accuse them of all being morons (I don't think that was you) is terrible snobbery.

That always struck me as an really odd argument. "Of course Mrs. Brown's boys is good comedy! It had 6.2 million views last time it was on!"

By the same logic then you could say "Of course Hitler was good! Look how many people voted for him!"

So what? The're thick-skulled idiotic zombies that shouldn't be allowed to procreate.

They just laugh at something you don't enjoy is all.
