There will be a few highlight shows on TV and radio 4, but they'll be short sets mostly from established comedians.
So Edinburgh Page 3
I did spy some people on stilts...why do they always show that sort of crock?
It was lovely to meet a few peeps from the forums and a good time was indeed had by all. It looks like we will hang out again before everyone heads home.....which will be nice
It was a pleasure seeing not one but three BCGers at yesterday's gig. For those of you in the area who might have missed it, we're on again today at 3pm today at Rush Bar.
I'm gutted there are no more white Lion bars. But I'll still give your show a shot. Thumbs up!
Thanks for coming today, Badge, great seeing you in the crowd!
Sorry I couldn't make it today David. I will catch up sometime soon.

No worries, we're here until Saturday if you want to stop by again.
...try the fish.

An 8-hour live broadcast on Friday 17th August from 9pm.

I'm having a good time at the Fringe. I've only been able to see the following so far as I have to fit in about 5 hours of travelling every day I go to get there and back home:
Jessie Cave, DeAnne Smith, Lucy Porter, Josie Long, Bec Hill, Katherine Ryan, Tony Law, Pappy's Flatshare Slamdown, Pappy's Last Show Ever, Norman Lovett, The Boy With Tape On His Face, Stephen Carlin and Silky.
Both Pappy's shows have been fantastic, definite Fringe highlights so far. Josie Long's show and Jessie Cave's show were a little weak. Josie was playing to an audience she didn't really need to win over (f**k the Tories/privatisation is bad isn't a hard sell, she banged on about the NHS a lot too but that's a devolved power so what she was angry about doesn't really apply here), and Jessie Cave's show seemed like it was aimed at a very young audience (12 year olds would love it, with a stage set consisting of a colourful playhouse and a cast of younger supporting siblings). I'd recommend DeAnne Smith (she pulled me in off the street describing her show as nerdy and a bit dirty, and I stand by that as a perfect description of what she does), Bec Hill (her flipchart material is gold) and Katherine Ryan (extremely funny, awkward comedy, although some of the celeb culture references passed me by). Tony Law and Lucy Porter have performed much better shows, but were still a good watch. Norman Lovett was sublime but I don't think he will be doing any solo shows this year (2 tickets sold to his show on the 8th, it was cancelled - I saw him perform with the guy from Squeeze. Only go along to those if you can bear 55 minutes of bad music to 5 minutes of comedy). I LOVED The Boy With Tape On His Face, I've seen him before, but I really love what he does. The rest (Stephen Carlin, Silky) were okay.
...and I've got tickets for Simon Munnery, Tim Key, Rick Shapiro, Hannibal Buress and Kumail Nanjiani. I'm hoping to see Matthew Crosby before the end of the run too.
Hope it's going well David.
Would have loved to get up there.

It really is a very funny show. And I didn't even get the Lion bar.
Thanks, Badge, we had a lot of fun that day.
If any of the rest of you are looking for something to see in the afternoon, we're on at 3pm every day until Saturday...
Le Bussell was good. And paid up on the playsuit quid. Recommended, especially if you own a playsuit, and even if you don't, but like funny.
Jane P also good in Ebrr, and soldiered on through a power cut when lesser comedians wussed out.
And was great meeting Bob Hicks.

This is quite interesting, for those who find this sort of thing quite interesting
There is a lot to suggest that a change is coming in the Comedy Industry and we are seeing more and more signs of this at the Fringe this year...
This year the debate has taking a very interesting new turn. Back in May The Alternative Fringe Manifesto pushed the phrase “Pay-To-Play Venues” as an alternative description to the Big Four Venues which has since been picked up by a bunch of other commentators. It has been the first year that Underbelly, Assembly, Pleasance, Gilded Balloon and Just The Tonic have been so directly challenged for operating a system that is not necessarily in the artists interests. As well as questioning the motives of the Agents that advise comedians to enter such deals. The distinction raised by Stewart Lee, Tommy at The Stand, Bob Slayer at The Alternative Fringe has been the difference between offering restrictive deals that put artists in debt versus fair deals, regardless of whether the shows are free or paid.

FRINGEOMETER – HOW FRINGE IS IT? http://www.fringeometer.com
Nominate, Comment and Vote...
The Fringeomenter gives you the chance to have your say about the Fringe. Nominate what you think is ‘Very Fringe’ and what is definitiely ‘Not The Fringe’. You can suggest anything about the Fringe you like or dislike: promoters, venues, pay-to-play, censorship, performers, trams etc – whatever you think needs recognition for its positive or negative impact on the Fringe. What makes these awards special is that there are no judges voting in secret, no corprorate sponsorship(1) and every chance that the winner won’t already have 5 TV programs on BBC Three.
(1) Fringeometer has been made possible due to a bit of cash bunged in by the very uncorporate Scottish Borders Brewery which was launched by farmer John in an old cow shed just under 2 years ago.

‘VERY FRINGE AWARD‘
A new award giving you a chance to declare and discuss what aspects of the Fringe are in keeping with the spirit of the festival. Obviously it’s up to you, but with all the great counter-culture and anarchic madness that goes on in Edinburgh we are certain you will find a worthy winner.
‘NOT THE FRINGE AWARD’
An award with a genuine difference… It is the first negative award on the Fringe! But Ironically the one with the most intention for good! The shortlist will be forced to wear a badge of shame and the winner will be banished from the Fringe Next Year(2)
(2) We may need your assistance enforcing any fringe banishment 2013.
