Sympathy Nat.
But I've grown heartily sick of how weird and selfish so many weddings are getting.
Maybe things will ease after the wedding?

I don't know. I hope so. My decision was pretty unpopular with my friends. I already felt pretty left out as it was before this- I was the only person in the group who wasn't made part of the wedding party as well (which is why I didn't get a 'plus 1', but as far as I'm concerned, Dan isn't a plus 1). It didn't help when we were all out at a group meal and the groom kept going on about how the bride wasn't going to have any bridesmaids but he INSISTED that my other two friends must be asked. I felt like such a dick.
Whats a wedding party?
Don't sound like a great loss.
Find an inexpensive beginners oil painting class, Lee!
Seems like weddings get very political and complicated. Ugh. Should just be a fun, happy get together, but people totally lose sight of that.
Quite all the best weddings I've been to have been in a hall or a big tent.
Loads of people, bar, food, wine and music/

Aw, really?
Clearly you shall have to move.

I was about to recommend the best book ever written on the subject -"How to See Colour and Paint it" by Arthur Stern - then I looked up the price. It's out of print and a fortune.
Feeling smug, as I bought mine 20 years ago for $18 US.
It is however a brilliant book - taught me loads - so, if you're ever feeling flush - or have a birthday coming up, second-hand copies start at about £45.
By the way, you might get on better with gouache or acrylic paints. Oils are pretty difficult. Especially for a beginner! I never liked using 'em. (Back when I was arty in the old days.)

I've bought all the oils now
I'm okay, I just need a good source of learning some techniques.
Why don't you use photoshop? It's got control Z. The single greatest tool ever

True but I wanted to do something that wasn't relying upon a computer.

Yeah it's a strange affair. My mother now doesn't talk to one of my cousins due to her selective inviting. I tried not to get involved with that one.
I made the decision nice and early that I wasn't going to pick and choose between people- it's just not worth the hassle. People invited- immediate family, aunties and uncles, close friends. No one else. Should be about 60 people which is absolutely perfect for the venue we want and I don't have to worry about who I am upsetting as I'm excluding entire groups as opposed to individuals. I'm spending the money I would have spend on cousins I never see on an awesome band instead.
Also bollocks to children. Children ruin weddings.
I feel a little sexist buying from a shop because I think the cashier is hot.
Thats proper mental. Welcome to my f**king head.
