British Comedy Guide

Opinions and suggestions for the Critique forum.

Just in case you have missed it. There is a thread over in the Writer's Discussion forum which may be of interest to regulars and newcomers alike.

If you have any suggests and ideas for improvement or you feel there is nothing wrong at all. Then please, let us know.

People in the industry do lurk on these forums and will browse over Critique, so it is a much more powerful and important tool than you may have first thought.

Here's the discussion - https://www.comedy.co.uk/forums/thread/25011/

Ahoy I was just wondering is there way readers of critique and showcase could flag up good stuff people might have missed.

I mean I think it's a shame so many people missed Why Hello John and Paedo Crossing.

but how would you do it without it being swamped by spammers?

I think that's a very good idea - a sort "Richard & Judy" thread.
Wouldn't it be quite simple to only allow people with a certain number of posts to post to this thread?

But then I know zilch about building a forum, tech-wise.

I also think fairly stiff moderation on tone of posts - both the critiques and the responses to that critique would make it a healthier place to hang out.

More work of course....

I was thinking that, but I hate the idea of privellege associated with number of posts.

But wouldn't those seeking reviews & recommendations prefer to think that they were getting bona fide ones?
The Richard & Judy Booklist works because (and don't ask me why) people think their is opinion is worth something.
It wouldn't have to a be a huge number of posts.
Just one less than I've got, for instance....
Whistling nnocently

Perhaps if you posted it your vote to the mod?

Thus allowing them to make the call?

If they don't mind. I mean if it was like a once a week thing.

Any showcase or critique with 3 non dodgy looking promos gets a mention.

I mean its more work. But I think if the profile of really good stuff mentioned the rep for the site its self would benefit.

Can we have a star or rating system, like on circalit? Then if it's ok but unremarkable just give it a star rating in areas like

Structure
Dialogue
Character

if it's really good or if people prefer they can still write.

It doesn't need changing, it just needs people to play to the rules. No trolling, be honest, but don't be insulting.

Can I just remind y'all that physically reprogramming the board might not be as popular with Aaron, over say a simple competition suggestion that would require no reprogramming. Pleased

Before we all get carried away with fantasy ranking systems and whatnot it's worth remembering that the guy whose job it would be to implement such changes isn't exactly the biggest proponent of Critique. That's no insult to Aaron there - I'm just saying I wouldn't be in a big rush to spend hours coding something I have zero interest in - at least not unless I was getting paid.

Thats why I was thinking of pming a mod.

And doing it once a month.

It just plays on my mind that some really excelent stuff has slipped by noticed by few.

Keep it a live by bumping it up. You can't bump your own threads up the page, that's not fair but I can't see no harm in bumping favourite threads. Just don't take the piss lol.

I was going to suggest reopening the 'Critique Rules' as I wonder if new posters look in there at all as it's marked as closed....but is it closed for a reason?
Does anyone even look in there though?

It's just supposed to be read, not replied to, that's why it's closed.
