It's unusual for them not to be able to trace a call, I'm presuming it must have been made on a mobile so obviously makes it harder but not impossible.

I think a night in the cells and a telling off from a scary policeman would do the twat a lot of good. (I followed the whole thing last night as it happened.)
Doubt that's quite what's happened as this isn't the 1950s. But still.

Is this not the very definition of the Thought Police? Yes, it would be great if people didn't go on Twitter and personally abuse people to their virtual faces, but considering our own newspapers are able to get away with it all the time, it seems a bit petty and a waste of police time.
Considering the way Daley has been hyped and the fact he still hasn't won anything, I'm not surprised there is a backlash.
The person involved should have had their account terminated by Twitter straight away. He shouldn't have been arrested.

Thing I find truly depressing is the guys got 36.000 followers, post mocking Tom's bereavment 54,000. And his writing could be pretty accurately described as sub moronic.
Is this the kinda guy who gets followers?

If you have a severely disabled daughter and you are under attack by a gang of yobs on your street and are bullied so much that you commit suicide, then the police can do nothing about it - but write something mean about a famous person on Twitter and they'll come busting down your door within seconds.
I'm sure there is a moral in there somewhere, but I've yet to find it.

I don't care about the Police overreaction, obviously that was a bit much, I care about the act itself. Which is vile, whether the person is famous or not; he should have been kicked off Twitter straight away.

Those statistics pale in comparison to the Sun, Daily Mail, Guardian, etc., all repeatedly taken to court for libel far more shocking then whatever some idiot wrote on Twitter.
Difference being, they were taken to court in civil actions, the police never arrested them.
Talk about double standards.
