The Skit Comp's pretty quiet these days too, I lost interest when it was reset back to 0 at the beginnig of the year, didn't seem to be a challenge to win a competition when there were only 4 other entries most weeks. I liked writing on a new topic every week, and enjoyed slowly working my way up the list. I would often post my sketches for feedback after the comp closed, but haven't entered in ages.

I like the skit comp. One skit a week is about my pace at present

Could maybe have a skit critique thread for the comp, maybe after it's finished for the week. I often would like to discuss the skits but it feels wrong to do so in the thread and not until everyone's entries are in.

Without Critique I'd never have worked with Kevin Eldon. For that reason, it will always have a special place in my heart.

Thats the thing in its prime it was a hot house.

I learned alot from it and got invited to work on some cool stuff.

But it requires a lot of people working together to really generate some energy. The old NR writers meetings were like BCG meetups.

Maybe there's just a lower number of new members signing up to the boards. Therefore, no new blood to replace the 'regulars' who got bored and moved on.

I mean the loss of guys like Bussell and Henman is really noticable.

You put up a skit or sitcom and you could get some really weapons grade feedback.

James Cotter was the beginning of the end for critique. He brought a lot of spite and venom to the board. Plus, he barely ever gave anyone else feedback.

Haven't you seen the piccies he's in the Viet Cong.

I do feel like Critique is MY BABY. I'm not sure if that's fair, and if it was my baby, social services would have taken it away now for neglect. But Aaron, doesn't care for it. So I took it under my wing for him. Plus, in the early days it had a great energy about it.

Keep your suggestions and support for it coming. It's great and is getting me excited again by its potential.

Showcase is the place for videos. I still think that Showcase hasn't been given a definition. So it's not fulfilling its full potential. I'm still not sure what it's for? I tell people one thing and Aaron created it for another.

I think Showcase if for semi-pros to "Showcase" their work. People who have videos but no platform for them. But I've always took showcase as a place where critique is not needed. Because "it's in the can". You can't really re-film stuff. But then again, that's not true because people can reddit and if not, they can learn for their next video. So really, yes it is a confusing place.

I did suggest this to Aaron some time ago, but I don't think he liked the idea and basically said no. However, I still think it is a good idea. I used to like reading through the sitcoms in critique as I found the things people did, and the critique that followed very useful for my own learning of the craft. The downside was that I needed to trawl through lots of sketches to find the sitcom.

Maybe bring in a rule that people put SITCOM or SKETCH in the title.

People don't exactly always follow rules though.
