Where does it end though? Most people thought it was a mistake splitting it into Showcase and Critique.

Quote: Lee @ July 26 2012, 10:42 PM BSTI personally can't be arsed to wade through all the rejects from the latest show taking submissions. I don't think they're bad, I just can't be arsed.
That.
Plus, it doesn't help if, after you give feedback, you sometimes get 'put on trial' yourself.
It seems to me that a fair number of the 'old' critique posters are now out and about trying to get their work produced. Christian & Becks, Bussell, Lee Henman, Freve & Angie etc. All used to post pretty regularly there.

Well sketches and sitcoms then.
What was the idea behind splitting up Showcase and critique? I see critique as somewhere I can be honest and showcase as somewhere where I have to say 'err that's nice' or say nothing at all. Consequently, I rarely look in showcase at all.
Quote: bigfella @ July 27 2012, 7:57 AM BSTthere were some that asked for critique but never gave any back. Shame
There again, any novice writer who needs such help, is by definition not experienced enough to offer an informed critique to others.
Quote: David Bussell @ July 26 2012, 11:00 PM BSTI hadn't realised that Critique was hidden from non-members. I can sort of see why Mark would want it that way but it's a choice that's definitely going to have an impact on the number of people posting in that area.
I don't think anything is hidden from non-members.
But if you haven't proudly ticked the profile box to say you're a writer, ... , then you don't get the 'Make it' forums in active threads.
I blame my spectacles for everything.

What?
I haven't really got time to go in there, to be honest.
I'll go in when Newsjack's on and offer feedback because I think it's useful to help people understand why their sketches might not be getting recorded. Similarly with Live From Kirrin Island (though I kind of have to, in that case).
Agree that I never go into Showcase, unfortunately, and would feel I'd have to say 'yes, that's nice' as mentioned above. I'd give more constructive feedback in Critique.
Also agree about the people who want feedback, but don't give any back. That is probably the most irritating thing about Critique and I usually don't bother giving feedback once I've figured out their game.

Know what you mean but getting different viewpoints and ideas from peers or audience is often helpful regardless of their credentials. The current state of critique is indeed a shame, not that I'm not also at fault
It's because none of the regulars write anymore.
I'm starting to think my continued writing is yet further evidence of my failure as a writer and a human being.
Although some of the time getting zero feedback is quite dispiriting.
And before anyone makes a snide remark about me filling up critique. That was a year or so ago I now hardly write there myself.
I think instantly banning anyone who tells you where you can stick your opinion, or that they think it's perfect and if you don't get it it's your fault, might encourage me to visit a bit more often.
Seems to have been lot more of these recently and it makes it not a very nice place to hang out.
Was just glancng at the accidentally hilarious cat joke page.
when I managed to enrage the greatest standup from Omaha.
I think his best joke was.
"I have a cat f**k you motherf**ker"

That was the last time I was in critique. No-one laughed at my awesome joke. Mofos. That's the real reason I haven't been in there, still sulking. But I have the decency to be a twat on loads of other threads too so I'm allowed and not hypocritical
So what have we learned? Critique can be a hostile place, where old regulars have disappeared and newbies don't stick around long enough.
