Of course part of the problem is the government gave all the nasty jobs; removal of over stayers, detention of people being processed etc to guess who?
G4S who made such an unholy pigs ear of it and at such a high cost. That it created disgust and rejection in the public for detaining assylum seekers etc.
Which is not the case in most other european countries.
Seriously Yarlswood burned down because nobody told G4S to install a sprinkler system.

In other news - Andy Coulson and Rebecca Wade are going to face charges for hacking. On the one hand, I applaud the CPS for going after the ringleaders instead of just the peons, on the other hand, the Murdochs managed to get away scott free.
So the real Olympic torch went through Eastenders? Why not just stage the whole of the Olympics in fictional settings? They could use javelins to spear vampires on set in Buffy, have woman's shotputting on Queer as Folk, and of course use Twin Peaks to stage woman's beach volleyball.
