Bah, I wish I had loaded the computer with software that reports its position & uses the webcam to photograph the thieves.

Or a stick of dynamite on remote control

Angry :S :( :( :( Angry

The police have closed the case of the stolen Billwill computer&bag for lack of anything they can usefully do and my insurance company say that laptops count as 'personal possessions' when they are out of the house and 'you ain't got personal possession cover, so tough!"

So now I'm gonna bring a full size tower PC and a 19" CRT monitor to the drink-meets. And a huge UPS (battery unit) or a very long mains cable reel.

Pirate

That is so annoying. Bloody insurance companies go out of their way not to have to pay out. Bastards.

My wallet was pickpocketed last year by a clever team of guys on a bus who distracted me by upsetting the girl I look after by paying her inappropriate amounts of attention. When I reported my wallet stolen via the local nick's online form I got a very pissy phonecall from an illiterate police officer who said I was wasting police time by reporting it. I thought you were supposed to report crimes? :S

Ugh.

That's a bummer :( a plague of locusts on the bastard thief.

Sometimes you wonder what cases the Police actually do work on.

Picking your pocket by upsetting a child?

What scum.

There's a reason crims used to be flogged, hanged or made to live in Australia.

I seriously hate the tolerance for this supposedly low level shitty behavious.

:( Wait till you have the bastard in your house! or menacing you by breaking fences/windows random over 2 weeks- SOOO annoying and depressing as Police said NO evidence avaialable, we can only 'monitor' the area! F# C# T#!

Anyway... had to board up windows and get through the friggin', the summer worst times ever. Teary

Not belittling Billwill's situation, or that of anyone affected by crime (that includes me) but in defence of the Police, in a lot of areas they don't have the manpower or time to deal with everything and have to prioritise, often putting themselves in danger which needn't have happened if there were enough officers.
Sometimes they have to unexpectedly do back to back shifts when there are not enough staff and they also have to do more admin now that many back office staff have been axed. There are good and bad cops, as in any job, but this must have an effect on their ability to do theirs.

Just wanted to repost this so no one misses it while we're sidetracked:

In case anyone didin't see it on Status Report a while back, Jane P's gig is this Monday

Half seven arrival for eight start
£5 admission

More Admin' workers -more effective beat police released to do surveillance.

Problem is the police can solve pretty much any crime these days.

So it's become a case of choosing what you deal with.

If someone breaks into your house and steals your telly, you'll get the house fixed and a new telly off insurance.

So no real harm to the public etc.

Where as someone robbing a post office at post office at knife point is a threat.

Problem is; light sentencing, lack of response etc. Has made bruglary an economically viable career

It would certainly help, that and more Police to do the things they joined up and trained for.

:( Sootyj there is 'harm' to public, to each individual victim, the crime in the Private sector is separate , it Harms and affects everyone in a household.

I know what you mean Dellas. They're only considering the material aspect and not the damage it does to people's minds.

One of the biggest problems with burglary is the readiness of people to buy stolen goods. The black market for televisions, laptops, phones, etc. is massive.

You go onto some housing estates and just about every household has a 'hookey' bit of gear. Ironically, the same people who have no problem buying a stolen telly are usually the same people who complain about the levels of burglary. Their brains seem to have a massive disconnect between cause and effect and the self propelling nature of their behaviour.

Same with buying anything illegal - from drugs to DVDs to clothing - these purchases fuel organsised crime and the circle continues.
