Personality test Page 4

Myers-Briggs is a standard personality testing tool that has been in widespread use for decades. There is nothing very scientific about it, but the virtue of an approach based on dichotomies, is that if you score high on a particular trait it is difficult to read the opposing trait as applying to you. It is not, as someone, suggested like a horoscope that can be read as applying to anyone; at least not unless you have a very meh, neither-one-thing-or-the-other type personality.

MBTI is certainly not an indicator of success in the work place, even if the snake oil human resources industry have latched onto it in that context. It might help you to identify which job you would enjoy, but not whether you would be any good at it. And results are completely falsifiable, which is a problem with its use in aptitude tests.

In any case most workplaces benefit from a range of personality types. As a manager I find an awareness of dichotomies helps to make best use of the strengths of my staff rather than tearing my hair out in frustration at their weaknesses. *keeps telling himself this*

I got Esfp. Not sure it's acurate but strangely have done at least two of suggested jobs. Think I was rubbish at both of them though.

Think there needs to be a sometimes option rather than just yes or no.

What a load of pretentious cat wank that test and its conclusions were. Reminiscent of the Scientology tosh. Still, the world is full of superstitious people who enjoy such tripe.

Possibly I have a little too much high regard for the Myers-Briggs personality test, but I think calling it "pretentious cat wank" is a little too severe. Your results may not have given an accurate discription of yourself (try the test again or try another online Myers-Briggs test) but in general I have found the test quite insightful for myself and the people I know. Obviously it can't explain a person fully - we're all complicated, malleable creatures - but it can bring up things of interest.

BTW, I'm an INTJ (essentially, a freak).

Methinks the test told someone a few unwelcome hometruths...

Agreed. Might be worth trying another Myers-Briggs personality test (well, if you've got time). It's not unusual to get a different result the second time. You might need to do 3-4 to get an accurate result (it's not an exact science).

Snap! Could be a cancer thing. A bit weird really. Maybe there is something in astrology as our bit=rthdays are one day apart.

Just pointing out that it's a rather F thing (rather than a T thing) to bring up astrology.

Woo! I'm an ESTJ, just like...

George W. Bush. :|

Just done it. I am an ESTJ as well.

I don't know whether to worry more about pissing in the same pot as George Bush, or the same pot as RC.

INTJ.

Three INTJs! We can all be robots together!

Excellent, we have enough for bridge!

Another INTJ here (and I'm a female one as well, I believe there's less of us).

Although INTJs are quite rare in general, there seem to be loads of us discussing personality types online. I think it's because we like systems (and arguing). Interesting to see lots here as well, although I suppose the sample's biased towards people who want to take the test (and the whole thing obviously appeals more to INTJs).

Oh dear God, no.

Having met some of the BCGers in real life, it's pretty safe to assume that most of them have failed the Personality Test.

;) :P

*I am joking, they are all lovely and interesting*

It classified me as ENTJ, which it went on to describe as being a tall, long-haired dullard, prone to wasting free time online due to being surrounded by Chinese people who don't watch Minder. At which point I stopped reading the profile. These things are all very well for fun, but the notion that every single person on earth can be classified into one of 16 distinct personality categories is dumb. Watching Survivor and The Wacky Races taught me that.
