British Comedy Guide

You could be in a film!

Hi,

Are you the kind of writer/performer who wants to develop comedy characters? Are you looking for a date....maybe...:)

OK, I'll come clean! StarryID ( http://www.starryid.com ) is a new social talent pool (for actors, models etc but definitely comedians and comedy writers!). We're collaborating with Drive Films in Liverpool on a documentary about online dating.

So, we've set up StarryVid Dating (video dating) http://starryid.com/page/starryvid-dating to generate some more content for the film. Now, some of the content will be real (actual videos of real people telling potential dates why they are so attractive etc) but some will be fake. That's where you come in...

If you upload a funny/dark/touching/relatable/surreal one minute-ish video of you pretending to be someone looking for an online date there's a chance it will be used in the upcoming documentary. Even if it's not chosen you'll get lots of publicity through StarryID.

Cheers and we look forward to your contributions!
Fred

Like, no way, really?!!! ZOMG!

All I have to do is make your programme for you, do all the performing, writing, filming, editing and uploading, receive no money and you might pick me? That is too good to be true! Golly Willickers!

If you are doing a 'documentary' on online dating, why do you need fake profiles from comedians? Why not just do a documentary about online dating using real dating sites?

I suspect your 'documentary' is a poor concept for a comedy show making fun of genuinely lonely people looking for companionship. If that's the case, enjoy Hell.

Wave

I ain't seen Fred Peters around for a while. But regardless, R.C has a point, I know because he rubs it against me in crowded places. He doesn't think I know but I do goddamit! I hope he doesn't stop now though. :$

Renegade Carpark,

That's an interesting reaction but I think you're missing the point and leaping to inaccurate conclusions wearing oversized Tweeny boots. To use a cliche, it is what it is. We're asking for video clips (not edited, we do the editing). Some will be used in a documentary (albeit a hybrid - you've seen documentaries like this), some will not. You can choose to upload videos because it IS an opportunity to get your work out there or you can choose not to.

You could also see this as a front for a Nazi paedophile ring too.

But it isn't. It's a website and we're trying to do something positive. It may end up successful and sometimes arguably funny or it may not. But if we don't try it will never be anything.

No internet beef please :)

No, I haven't been here for a while. Apologies. Be big about it.

wearing oversized Tweeny boots. - nice

(albeit a hybrid - you've seen documentaries like this) - they're not 'hybrid' documentaries, they're spoofs, full of paid actors - except in this case.

it IS an opportunity to get your work out there. - so is You Tube

You could also see this as a front for a Nazi paedophile ring too. - at least it would be original.

No internet beef please :) - don't slag off my lovely Tweeny boots and deny my right to respond

You can advertise whatever you like, but please don't ask for free shit by labelling it as a 'documentary'. Perhaps next time, you could say it's for 'charity', that usually brings out the suckers.

If people on here want to send you material, then more power to them and to you. Good luck with it. I just don't like the way you requested the material and the lack of information surrounding the end product. 'It is what it is' is about as clear as mud.

That is one of the sweetest things I think I've ever read on the internet. And it was written by RC. I'm delirious, right? Someone take my temperature..

All of those shows where innocent members of the public are attacked by sneering, unfunny and unimaginative comedians really wind me up.

The worst one I saw was a fake job - some poor sucker thinks he's actually got a job and can pay his bills and look after his kids - but whoops, it's all a wind up as some ponce from a shit university pops out of a cupboard dressed as a chicken or whatever.

Laugh? I nearly kicked my television through the wall.

It's not going in, is it?

1) Do all the opportunities advertised on this site have to be paid now? I expect not..

2) It's a documentary. It's about online dating. Of course, like any documentary, we have no idea what will be in the end product.

Look, if you don't want to send a video fine but I have to emphasise that I am being 100% genuine with this. Any lack of clarity is because of the nature of any creative process, whereby the end product is known after, not before it is created.

If anyone has any specific questions I'll answer them as best I can. :)

Will the genuine participants be told beforehand that there will be comedians and actors contributing material as if they were also genuine participants?

I wonder why it's not going in? Oh I know, because I don't understand what you are doing and you seem a little unclear yourself.

But as stated above, good luck with it.

Yes they will.
As I've said, I'm unclear what participants will say

So, are the genuine participants who are describing why they'd be a good date actually expecting an audience that can get in touch with them as if it were a dating programme/website?

Good question! We're putting StarryVid Dating out there to see what we get. If lots of genuine people come along and get dates from it we're happy for them!

They'd have to give consent to be used and we would definitely NOT MAKE FUN OF THEM through the editing. This is indeed a lame trick which is the preserve of television.

BUT if some genuinely funny people post hilarious videos on there then that helps with emotional range of the documentary.

Does that make sense? :)
