Comedy, The Anime Way (Giggle Beats column)

Sorry if this is in the wrong section - no doubt someone can move it to the right place.

I've just started a new column on Giggle Beats (for whom I write their TV and radio columns), covering comedy anime and manga (Japanese animation and comics).

The reason for this column is because I'm rather keen on my anime. I actually work as a manga reviewer for a magazine called MyM, and I'm the secretary of my local anime convention (Nemacon in Middlesbrough).

I want to try and prove to people that comedy from non-English speaking countries can be just as good as comedy from America. If I can get at least one person interested, it will be worth it.

The column is monthly and currently working on a three-month trial. I wrote an introductory column last week. The first article proper went online today, and covers the first comedy anime I ever saw, a sci-fi comedy called Maritan Successor Nadesico.

The second column will cover a romantic comedy, Ouran High School Host Club, and the third will cover a surreal comedy, FLCL.

I should point that the image at the top of the article comes from an anime which isn't a comedy. I think my editor picked it just because it's of someone laughing. I'm trying to get some specially commissioned art to go into the top instead.

I read the intro nice stuff.

I'm happy to get feedback.

Ok good writing interesting subject and you define the subject well.

But too many I's and me's. Also the first 3rd is quite heavy going, better to start with an interesting idea. Then say why's it's interesting. Then too start saying why somethings interesting then show something interesting.

nb I loved One Piece on CN.

OK, point taken. I'll have a think about the structure.

Liked it and will read, but you know bloggers helping bloggers!

Don't worry. Just a quick look will help. The more hits I get the more likely that the editor will allow me to keep writing the column.

Those pesky editors!
